Auto Darkening HD Welding Lens, 2" x 4.25" True Color Welding Filter Lens, with 2pcs Replacement Outside Clear Lens Cover for Welding Helmet, Shade 3/11

So I got my mask cleaned out and replaced the lens with this one and started welding. It flickers on and off. Absolute fail. So I got my eyes blinded a couple of times before giving up on this one and popping my standard, non-auto darkening lens back in place. Stay away from this one guys.

My previous auto darkening welding helmet was the budget one from Harbor Freight (HF). Although it worked, it was not particularly optically clean and I found myself going back to my old Lincoln helmet with the fixed lens. The HF unit recently had and an issues that required me to disassemble the lens unit and solder new batteries into it. Even with the new batteries, it was not that great optically. When Vine offered this in exhange for an HONEST review, I decided to give it a try. The only auto darkening lens that I have experience with is the HF one, there are probably some professional welders who will jump in and say, "You should try XXX, they are the best around"... That might be the case, but I'm just reviewing what I have experience with and at a price point that I would purchase. I'm not a professional welder, so I'm not going to be spending hundreds of dollars on a welding helmet.I installed this unit in an old Lincoln helmet. Immediately, I noticed that it was significantly more optically clear than my previous HF unit. The only issue was that when you installed it in the conventional Lincoln helmet with the original gasket, it was a bit too thick to properly latch, but I was able to get it to eventually work. I will NOT be switching back to the HF unit nor the fixed lens.I would probably give this a 3.5 star rating, but that is not an option on the Amazon system since the choices would be 3 or 4. I don't think it meets my definition of a 4-star rating though.I would most definitely recommend buying this instead of buying the budget (cheapest) HF welding helmet. Especially if you already have a fixed shade helmet. It might be a couple of dollars more expensive, but it is definitely worth it. Auto darkens pretty quickly most times but I've had to give it a few seconds every once in a while. It's not failed to work and so I just need to remind myself to paise a second first. Decent solution for the price.

So nice to have the auto darkening feature. pretty responsive to changes in the ambient light so you can see much better depending on the light

The media could not be loaded.  What a great auto darkening lens. The solar cells work flawlessly with super fast transitions for allowing fast eye protection and ocular adjustments between tacking (see video), with no flicker. The size fits any standard 2×4" hood slot. I popped it into a hood I had in a matter of seconds with no slack or wiggle. All around just a great lens for hobbyists or professionals.

I'm a part time welder - self-taught off of YouTube and bought a mask from Harbor Freight but it seems to never kick on and dim the shade at the proper time (retina alert!). That is why I was so stoked to find this product on Amazon - and it doesn't even require batteries. Product came just as expected - shipping was flawless and contents were carefully wrapped in bubble wrap. As you can see - glass is quite thick and quality.Note: I will try and update before long after I get it set in the helmet and give it a go to see how well it performs.

These do exactly what they say they will, which automatically makes them a five star product. Imagine the Transitions glasses but for a welding lens. These are exactly that. They darken quickly upon experiencing bright light and then go back to normal afterward, without completely obscuring your vision while doing so. I had previously been using a dark lens that would barely allow me to see anything, all I'd see was the tiny sun being formed while fusing two metals, and the rest was guesswork. Those days are now long gone. I do question how much these will take before needing to be replaced, but I haven't found that limit yet. Naturally, there are only so many cycles of darkening and normalizing that any product can endure, so we'll see.

Love this welding lens, the auto darkening feature works really good almost instantly changes to darker at the first sign of a flash, I can see a lot better at what I'm doing now, grea performance for the money!
