FOR A WALL PLAQUE EAGLE NOT A FULL 3D EAGLE
I was hoping for a book describing how to carve a full 3D eagle. This book with it's extensive photographs shows how to do an eagle that is fairly flat and could be hung on a wall. The example he works on is made up of 4 parts that are glued together. It starts with the full wing span about 4 feet long, 8 inches high and 1 inch thick. To that he glues 3 more 1 inch thick pieces. A head, and each wing gets a piece glued to the tops of each wing to give a bit of depth. So it ends up about 2 inches in depth depending on the thickness of wood used. The book is almost all photographs with brief descriptions describing what is going on. This is a good way to present this type of material. For beginners like myself, it will provide good information on carving the feathers. There is also an 8 page chapter for adding gold leaf. One page of the book has an 8 inch grid pattern indicating the scales to be; 1 square block is = 2 inches and 1/2 inch = 6 inches. It should have said 1 inch = 6 inches.

Good Book!
This is a good "how to" book with clear steps for executing the subject. It covers only one eagle with pattern, but the techniques are transferable to other eagles. It would have been helpful to have more patterns. Full color photos of each step. Clear text.

Good carving advice.
This was a fairly decent design book but it did not have the eagle design I was looking for.
