Excellent Introductory Guide
I just finished reading "Criminal Profiling: An Introductory Guide." I found the guide to be very useful in helping one make an informed decision as to whether or not a career in criminal profiling would be a realistic pursuit. The information presented in the guide ls relevant, thorough, and easy to understand. I would recommend this guide as a first step for anyone interested in pursuing any criminal investigation-oriented career.

Introduction
This is a great little book. Its perfect for anyone with a general interest in forensic psychology and wants to know more about criminal profiling - particularly as it pertains to the FBI. If you want to know a general overview and learn more about what’s required to become a profiler with the FBI this book is the perfect read. I think this is a must read if you know every little on the subject but want to know more without committing to a complex text book or forensics’/criminology course.

Short, but useful.
This is a *very* brief introductory guide to Criminal Profiling. It's not going to answer a whole lot of your questions, but it is interesting nonetheless. You'll want to supplement this with a number of other works, but it might be especially good for those who might be considering a career in the field. It does give the basics of the process and provides paths and resources for those wanting to pursue a career in criminology or forensic psych.

Good read
Very informative for people aspiring to work in this field. It quickly debunks all myths created by awe inspiring tv shows. The last few pages specifically answer questions for people who want careers in profiling.Very enjoyable read and great initiation into the world of criminal profiling!

Forensic psychology the future
Students going to university for psychology want something more exciting than memory experiments and so profiling similar forensic titles are becoming more popular. As long as a balance between USA and UK profiling is recognized and the failure of profiling to lead to arrests (only 17% for FBI and UK profiling success) are seen in the book. Most criminals are caught still by informers and witnesses - very little success is from investigations. So a new book in the field is always welcome as in introduction to an interesting but not scientific psychology.

Info book for beginners
A brief introduction for beginners. I expected more text than the one on the author's website and that's why I give 4 stars instead of 5.

Profiling the Writer: An Introductory Guide
This deserves negative stars. It is repetitious ("sincerely") and wordy. In one paragraph, he defines a term three times using the same phrase. It could have been written in much fewer than 36 pages of large type and wide margins. The language is sometimes stilted (contacting the FBI "telephonicaly"). There are few facts, just lots of words. My profile: This is a person who considers himself intelligent. He brackets his "work" with his degrees, none of which are PhDs. He is concerned with his image. He deliberately omits the specifics of his teaching experience. My guess is that he was a TA or part time lecturer at a community college or small university at best. He seeks approval by diametrically promoting himself as "above-the-crowd" superior and "one-of-the-guys" friendly because he has never felt at ease socially and bases his entire identity on his perceived intellect, though beneath the facade he is deathly afraid he and his public will discover he is a fake. If conning people into buying this self-published meaningless rhetoric passes for "smart," he has a lock on it, but that's the best I can say. If buying a piece of lint for about 35 cents a leaf is dumb, I have a lock on it. Just a thought, I wonder how many of those high ratings were sent by family members or students in search of favor. Or even the writer himself.

Simple early entry overview of criminal profiling. Makes you want to learn more and dispels some of the myths from tv. Recommended as good place to start.
