Much better than her first book!!
This one was so much better than her first book (in my opinion) - I felt like the book was better written, the characters were more likable and relatable and the writing style had improved for sure! I almost didn't get this book because I didn't care for the first one, but this one changed my mind about this author. The story is a bit predictable, the reader figures out most of what is going to happen pretty quickly, but there are a few surprises thrown in for them throughout the book. The story does flow quickly and the reader can't help but zoom through the pages as they don't want the story to end, but they also need to know what is going to happen...it's a hard decision to make for the reader to read it all in one sitting or to stop reading it and take their time. This one is more "the book of summer" than her previous book - for me anyway - add this one to your TBR list and move it to the top, it's worth the read!

Beautiful. A new favourite author
I’d first read every summer after by carly fortune and as a lover of modern romance, she is truly a standout author. Looking forward to her next novel in 2024

A beautiful second-chance romance
"Meet Me At The Lake is a charming, romantic summer read based upon second chances and missed connections. It is a very heart-warming and emotional read." ~nerdywordyreviewsFern Brookbanks never wanted to take over the family resort. She pushed that off years ago when she decided she wanted to stay and live her life in Toronto as she saw fit. However, the universe had different plans for her. Here she stands at her family resort in the Muskoka's trying to decide what to do. Does she continue her life in Toronto and sell the family resort, or stay and make it her own? Fern has lived most of her adult life reminiscing and wondering what could have been with Will Baxter. The one who got away ten years prior. While the Brookbanks resort has her full attention and the decisions need to be made a stranger from the past arrives at the resort. Fern is shocked, confused, and overwhelmed at seeing Will Baxter, in the flesh checking in.Will Fern get the answers she wanted from 10 years ago when her heart crumbled? This is the second Carley Fortune novel I have had the pleasure of reading and I LOVE her contemporary romance stories. They are so well written and descriptive that you can feel the emotion of the characters within the story. The timeline goes back and forth from the present to the past when Fern and Will originally met. Giving the reader a full view of their story. The back-and-forth transitions are smooth and easy for the reader to follow.Carley Fortune writes her books based in Canada which helps Canadian readers, or travelers put themselves into the character's locations. This is a beautiful novel about missed opportunities/relationships, and second-chance romance.Meet Me at the Lake was a nominee for Goodreads Best Romance 2023.Carley Fortune has a new novel "This Summer Will Be Different", set to release May 7, 2024. The setting will be on Prince Edward Island. Her first novel also based in Ontario is titled, "Every Summer After".

A Second Chance Romance for Soulmates.
Every Summer After was one on my favourite reads of 2022, so to say I was excited to read this book is an understatement. I did however patiently wait until I was on holiday before reading.Carley writes romance unbelievably well and I continuously find myself captivated by the plot and characters. The Dual Timeline that she incorporates within her structure is a favourite of mine as I personally adored uncovering aspects of the characters’ history; their first encounter and the nine years between their first meeting in small instalments. The diary entries from Fern’s mother were so heartfelt throughout and the link in the Epilogue was such a sweet touch. In my opinion, Every Summer After is still my favourite book by Carley but Meet Me at the Lake is still a good read.Synopsis:After a chance encounter, Will and Fern spend the day together there’s an instant connection between them and they both don’t want the day to end. With them both in a relationship, the set themselves goals for the year and agree to meet at the lake a year later. When Will doesn’t show up Fern is hurt and left with no explanation of why he didn’t make it to the lake. After the death of her mother, Fern is back at the resort when Will turns up, nine years late.Read if you enjoy:•Second Chance Romance•Dual Timeline•Insta Love•Soulmates
