Valhoma Chicken Harness "Hen Size" - PLUS 6 FT Matching Chicken Leash

OK, my pet chickens generally follow me closely as I point out crickets and other snacks in my fenced yard, but I wanted this harness for novelty and practical reasons. I can harness my hen in my unfenced front yard and go about my business weeding or gardening. I haven’t tried walking her yet with the leash, but she will walk about with the harness ON. That’s a win right there. This harness is described as HEN SIZE, which perplexed me as I have bantam hens and some big standard gals. However, it perfectly fit my large and still growing Buff Brahma with room to spare. It is adjustable with those black squeezable fasteners that are common on dog collars. The back near the neck has a steel loop for the leash. The matching leash has the metal fastener common to all dog leashes – I mention this because this “hardware” has some weight to it that might impede or dismay your hen, depending on how strong she is. A bantam would need a smaller size than the small, and the hardware weight might be too much. Bottom line, this is well designed, padded and comfortable, and should fit a standard hen or smallish rooster. However if the leash is a bit heavy when it (inevitably) rests on your bird's back, I’d just swap it out and tie a lightweight piece of rope or clothesline.

The item arrived as promised and in good shape. It fit perfectly and is very well made. The only thing that was a negative for me was that the harness and leash are two different shades of pink. Other than that, everything else is good and it was priced well.

The smaller (hen size) was a pretty good fit, but she was young and the neck was a bit big...nothing a bit of duct tape couldn't adjust. She was learning to walk again and this harness helped me left her gently as to not put too much weight down in the beginning. She has made a full recovery!! And enjoys a (harnessed) walk down the street to my neighbors every once-in-a-while.Very good price too!

Tried to put it on my large 6 pound chicken, doesnt fit. Ok. Tried to put it on my smaller 2 pound chicken, doesnt fit. Ok. What size chiken was this meant for because it doesnt fit any adult sized ones...I tried it on a new Hampshire red (6 pound) and buff orpington (2 pound, younger hen).The build quality is ok I guess, but you cant even fit it on the bird so whats the point?Edit: i found this exact style harness at tractor supply and it was being sold for dogs. So, i think they are marketing the same product (different sizes) to any animal they can think of. That being said, if you really do like this harness but its too small, go to your local tractor supply and buy it there. They're in the dog isle. I just wish they didnt picture 2 chickens wearing it that appear to be 3-4 pounds if it wasnt intended for that size. Its misleading.

So fun! Highly recommended. It gives hens a chance to forage if they are kept in an enclosure. Slip it over the hen's head and run the clip under the left wing, through the loop and clip it under the right wing. Adjust the belt! It fits our hens just fine. Let the hen guide you. They will love it if they have freedom to roam. Pick up your hen and place her down where she can forage to move her. All our girls love it! Even my slow fatties!

Hilarious and does work, fits all in our mixed flock from smallest (amber link) to largest (Australorp). Can't say the chickens like it much so far but they put up with it and my 10 year old daughter thinks it's great.

These are just as ordered. However, you need a good size hen or rooster. Small ones can slip out of the neck area.

My daughter loves this - we have chickens that can't free range because of the predators here. This allows my daughter to be able to get them out even though they have a large enclosure. It is a size "small" but with the straps extended all the way it fit perfectly on my buff orpington and she's no small chicken! tightened all the way it will fit my leghorn. It was easy to get on and off.
