Works great.
So i upgraded my Roku and it didn't have analog outputs. Just HDMI. I prefer analog audio so I can use a stereo compressor to squeeze the audio. The audio compressors are more for recording & home studio work (dbx brand is low cost and get the job done well). Basically, they keep the TV from getting loud. I use one for my TV for the loud commercials by running the RCA outputs of my Direct TV box into a stereo (left/right) compressor and into a Pioneer receiver. Granted, analog audio won't sound as crisp as digital, but watching TV is a lot more pleasant to my ears. The hard part is dialing in the compressor correctly.Anyways, the ASK converter works great and the video signal does not degrade.

Bad out of box, hope that’s a fluke.
It doesn’t work. I believe I got a bad one out of the box. Only 2 of the RCA jacks have output no matter what the switch position is or what movie I watch. I made sure that the movie was a Dolby surround and there is a setting on the direct tv that needs to be on for Dolby to work, mine was already on. Now I need to either try another one or just upgrade my receive.

Works with Netflix DD2 audio
Just like many here found out that this unit as other units doesn't provide surround sound through the tosh link connection. IE Netflix DD2Seeing that this unit provides analog (rca) connections i wired into my denon avr4802 ext in. And now have surround sound. Unfortunately i am unable to swicth other surround sound modes my receiver has. It is taking the DD2 signal and converts it to an analog signal that my receiver can use.

Works very well on uncompressed PCM over HDMI
I have not been able to get analog 7.1 output, whatever configuration changes I made to my system. The optical output works, so I will keep it fro that. Maybe I will discover something in the future. But for now, the box is essentially useless for its intended purpose.Just updated my rating, because I have determined that the unit will in fact produce 7.1 analog channels derived from the HDMI stream. You have to ensure that the source media does have 7.1 channels, and that the player (hardware and software) are generating uncompressed PCM (including DTS downmix), and that all cables meet specifications for carrying uncompressed PCM over HDMI. Some DVDs and Blu-Rays only have 5.1 channels, so that is all you will get from the RCA jacks.See the conversation attached to the question I asked in the questions section..Here is the latest results posted in the conversation (3/18/2018):Next Experiment: Windows 10 - Play Blu-Ray from ThinkPad over DisplayPort->HDMI Adapter. (1) Once the PC is connected to the HDMI display, you should be able to right click on the speaker icon and see AV Receiver (or similar) as the playback device. Then you can setup speaker configuration to 2.0, 5.1, 7.1 - whatever you want. There is a speaker test that sends a tone to each speaker, so you can verify that your wires are correct. It was perfect in my system. (2) In the media player, such as Cyberlink PowerDVD, go into the settings and set the output to HDMI and also under more audio settings, set the output mode to PCM decoded by Cyberlink PowerDVD. (3) Once the disc is loaded, change the PowerDVD settings to "show information". When you get to the main feature, you can see whether the movie has 5.1 or 7.1 available, with or without DTS Master audio. This lets you know what to expect in your speakers. You can also go online and search for "Blu-Rays with 7.1 audio" for example, to double check. (4) If everything checks out, you should get full 7.1 sound from your laptop playing a disc that has 7.1, thru the HDMI -> analog audio converter.

Excellent quality HDMI to 7.1 surround sound converter
Very easy to install and setup. There is no remote. Product works great in my home theater for 7.1 surround sound system. I have no hesitation in recommending this for 7.1 system. I also have a lower cost 5.1 unit from another company for my family room system.

Works with active speakers only. Can not replace an amplifier for typical or passive speakers.
Since I discovered that the device only works with active speakers, power sourced speakers, I have lost interest in test ing with DVDs. The RCA plug would have told me but I had to learn that the hard way, my inexperience. The HDMI is able to route from the computer to the monitor and so I can have video and a few feed, the two speakers that are active speakers. VLC player can convert flac files to all but SR, SL, Center, and Subwoofer ports.

EUREKA !!!!!
Absolutely rocked it. Did everything it said and worked flawlessly. No audio delay, the passthrough worked great. I have a 3D DVD player and Amazon Fire TV. I also purchased a simple HDMI switch (3 way). So, from my 3D DVD and Amazon Fire into a 3 way HDMI switch (sold separately), from the switch into this baby, then the passthrough goes to my 3D HD Projector. Audio goes to my 7.1 system and everything just works. 3D movies work flawlessly as well.I went from having racks of equipment for my home theater to just these 4 items (DVD Player, HDMI switch, this Audio Extractor, and my Fire TV). Wow.

Falsely advertises 4k video output.
So I got this to hook up a Frizby RCA 5.1 Surround system. The kind that all the speakers and controlls go through the subwoofer. I wanted it to go from my tv to the speakers because all the devices and game systems I use are already connected to the hdmi ports on the tv. This was for game systems not watching tv so I wasnt going to use this fo just 1 device. My tv has an optical out only, unfortunately this converter doesn't have an optical in. I did attempt to plug my xbox one x into this directly but, despite the box for the converter saying it works with 4k, it doesn't. This is highly disappointing because I really dont want to spend hundreds for a big reciever box just to get actual surround sound from my speakers as well as get 4k output. The only reason I'm not putting 1 star is because it does actually work, just not exactly as advertised. Seriously needs an optical in, due to most tvs made these days only having optical output for sound. Not everyone wants a sound bar lol
