The Hobby Farm Murders (The Shirley Steele Murder Mysteries) Paperback – 25 January 2022

I have read all the books written by this author. They are all fantastic! She always adds subtle humor into her mysteries. The characters are always funny and relatable. This one is no exception. The main character, Shirley Steele, is a retired single lady with an old blind poodle, Francis as her side kick. Her easily distracted son also makes appearances to start and never finish random projects around her new Minnesota farm house. I don’t want to give too much away about the book, but just a forewarning: it’s hard to put down. It’s not a long book, so an easy 1-2 day read if you have the time. I highly recommend it!

Hove the characters in this book - so unique and eccentric is some cases, with great development - it was the highlight of the book to get to know them. The story flows and has a interesting murder mystery and I enjoyed reading it very much.

I always look forward to reading Kathy Cohen's books and this one is a thriller! The main character is Shirley, a very resourceful middle aged woman, who moves to rural Minnesota to be near her son. The locals she meets, the obstacles and mishaps she encounters, are enough to make anyone give up hope making a home there. People are not who they seem to be, and Shirley surprises one in her ability to handle situations thrown at her.Strongly recommend reading.

I'm not much of a reader for entertainment and for my job work all day on a computer - but reading this book was a treat and makes me want to come back for more. Unique voice, very interesting characters way outside my norms yet relatable, an interesting plot and good humor. More please!

The Hobby Farm Murders is an engaging mystery but where it really shines is in the characterization. Cohen has a knack for the details that let the reader get to know the inhabitants of her book within a few sentences. I hope to read more about the adventures of Shirley Steele!
