The water stays below the black rim just as one would expect. The basin does go a little "flat" if you don't fill the tub up enough but still the water doesn't spill. Instead of using for washing dishes or clothes I got this to soak my feet after a very long day hiking on the Camino de Santiago where I travel between 20-30km per day for 5 weeks. It is amazing, very lightweight, and is one of those luxury items folks are a bit jealous of. I am so happy I got this.

Fantastic product that means you can take that kitchen sink wherever you wish. The material is durable and the handles cope with the weight of a full sink load admirably. It folds much like a pop up beach tent for children - although it is much easier to foldaway afterwards into the tiny stuff sack it comes with. Great for backpacking and car camping if you're short on space.
