Mr Gumpy's Outing: 1 (Mr Gumpy, 1)

I bought this because it was a Year 1 (Primary school UK) text that my son really enjoyed, but now my 2 and a half year old requests it all the time and can recite half the words. Beautiful, yet very different, style of illustration than most of the other books we own. Definitely recommended and lots of fun to read.

It's a good story to read out loud. It's a simple story with ample space for the imagination of young minds. I bought it for my kids, they are only 16 months old but they love stories especially about animals. So they enjoy it when I read it out loud to them. The book is well written. The quality is good, although it is a paperback version, the paper quality is very good. This is a good read for kids.

I just bought this book for a new baby (for when the baby is a bit older!)and I had forgotten how great it is to read out loud. Mr Gumpy allows all sorts of animals onto his boat and all is going smoothly and then, they all start to do the things he had so asked them not to do and they all end up in the water. But then they all walk home to tea. Wonderful illustrations, rhythm, and just one of the best to read out loud to anyone over one.

Really lovely book that my husband used to read as a child. Lovely story and pictures.

When it comes to storytime the kids either like The Tiger Who Came To Tea or MR GUMPY! It's one of those timeless books, a must have for your bookshelf, the kids will have find memories of the boat tipping for years to come.

A gorgeous and beautifully illustrated book. Our little girl started with Mr Gumpy's motor car which is one of the favourites against the likes of Lily & Bear by the fantastic Lisa Stubbs. We were delighted to give her this John Burningham book and see her little face light up. It gets read over and over and never grows old. There will of course be more as there are more to acquire :)

Lovely, simple story that builds. Admirably different, un-cutesie illustrations. (Two quibbles: We change "said" to "asked" for all animals save the cat, who's the only one who doesn't ask a question; and the goat shouldn't already be in the boat on the left side of the goat page!) Recommended as one of baby's first books.

Any book of John's will present the young reader with imagination. The repetition and the warnings are part of the plot which appeals to the young listeners and when the warning is not heeded, the consequences are realised. great book for young listeners/readers to predict the ending - what will happen the next day??

Love the colors and the text. Older book but so worth reading to your children of if your child reads. If a child can read they can be anything!!

Un libro con ilustraciones muy bonitas y sencillas y una historia divertida y con ritmo para los niños. Les encanta. Recomendable.La única pega es que el libro era de segunda mano y llegó un poco hecho polvo y con letras en la cubierta.
