Good Night, And Good Luck (Dianne Reeves)

Gorgeous, silky smooth vocal jazz
I first came to the realisation that I needed this CD when I found myself just leaving the DVD's Main Menu on so I could have the music on in the background. The first thing I noticed when the album arrived is that there are fifteen tracks on here, which is a lot for any CD, let alone one with music of this calibre. With the first track you're thrown straight in at the deep end, and Dianne Reeves' smooth yet rich vocals surround you.The tracks range from toe-tapping speedy runs such as 'You're Driving Me Crazy' to the sweet gentle flow of tracks like 'Solitude'. Each track is an experience in its own right, and you'll find you'll turn to this CD almost no matter what your mood, since there is such a broad range. Favourites for me (very difficult to choose) would probably be 'Straighten Up And Fly Right', 'Solitude' and 'Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall'.This CD would serve well as background music for nights in with a partner, and could accompany a CD from Steve Cole in a shuffle very well. If you even remotely like jazz, this CD is a must have. You'll definitely find something you like, be it Reeves' stunning vocal performance, the warm timbre of the saxophone performances, the toe-tapping percussion and bass lines, or the perfectly performed piano accompaniments. Even without the movie, this CD would certainly stand on its own, and it deserves to be a part of every true music lover's music collection.

Thought it was Sarah Vaughan
Like many I guess, I came to this album via the wonderful film (one of my all time top 5 movies and a must-see). There was Dianne Reeves singing these great 40's and 50's songs, but I had not heard of her and thought it was someone miming to Sarah Vaughan. Only later did I find out about Ms Reeves and her incredible voice. The music itself is beautifully arranged and performed, and cover a wide range of styles. Her voice, especially in the ballads, is pure control and emotion. Probably only Ella ever peformed these songs better. If you like that period of American music and listenign to an absolutely top-class singer then give this a go. (Or better, watch the film and win both ways).

Fabulous
I heard the music on the sound track when I watched the film in TV. It sounded so beautiful, especially the sax solos, that I was prompted to seek out and order this CD.Dianne Reaves has that deep black soul singer voice that sounds so confident and atmospheric. She doesn't tap you on the shoulder so much, its more a matter of grabbing your soul and heart to awaken thoughts, feelings and desires you thought had forgotten all about.I have listened to it again and again.
