The media could not be loaded. It’s insulting to pay full price and get sent this. One used and beat up, the other new, but dented grill.One was obviously used (dents everywhere, non original packaging, missing manual, unwrapped cable, settings changed. etc). I blame Amazon for that one; they should never unknowingly send customers who pay full price used/returned items.The other one was not used.. just a dented grill. I blame EV for this one. Just like others have complained, the grill is weak and the packing protection is non-existent so dents are almost unavoidable. At this price point the least they could was add some insulation to protect the speakers during shipment.Speakers sound incredible tho. So gonna return the used one and try and undent the other. Sigh.

I actually own a pair of these (though I didn’t purchase through Amazon). I’ve had them now for about 6 months and I use them for DJing. I originally went to Guitar Center to buy the QSCK12.2 and literally right before I went to the register to finalize my purchase, something told me to go back and listen to these. I played them side by side with the K12.2 and WOW, I was blown away. Unlike the plastic cabinets of the K12.2, these are wood and deliver phenomenal bass. But it’s not the bass I’m even excited about, it’s the mids and highs...my god,the K12.2 just couldn’t keep up at higher volumes . The clarity is amazing, bright sound without overwhelming your ears. The EQ section is also very nice, and you can customize your sound. Pair it with a good sub, and that’s all she wrote! The ONLY problem I’ve had with these speakers so far is that the grille is so damn fragile. Any little thing and you have yourself a scratch or dent. Once, I had someone hold this speaker on their lap to a show and by the time we got there, it was dented! No other weight (other than the weight of the speaker itself) was applied and it dented! I’ve done this with other speakers in my arsenal and none suffered a dent.

I was disappointed with this speaker. I had them for only 6 months. (Purchased Sept. 2015) I've had two main issue that happen twice. First my XLR cables kept getting stuck in speaker input, it happen two times with two different speakers. I use to own 4, and as you can see I said, "use to" :-( Then the DSP went out twice on two different speakers where the amp kept cutting on and off. I've read all the great review, and I heard them for myself in the store where I bought them, and they sounded amazing, but EKX series only been out for two years. Long story short, I traded my 4 EKX-12p and 2 EKX 18sp for 4 QSC K12 & 2 KW181, and I'm a very happy camper now!!!....WhooHoo!!. These speakers have a very long track record, and have proven the test of time....Sorry EV but you better go back to the drawing board on this one. I do too many wedding and high profile event, and paid too much money for these type of things to happen in a short period of time. I gave EV a shot, but now I've lost all confidence in your brand.

Currently my rig consists of a Nord Electro, Korg SV-1 and software synths. I have been looking for an alternative to my combo keyboard amp for a long time---I have played through a lot of keyboard amps and PA speakers over the years and have struggled to find the right combination of portability, flexible EQ settings, and full-range, transparent sound. Most combo amps are fairly heavy and bulky if you intend to compete with the guitars or if you’re playing a larger venue. The problem with PA speakers is that they are geared toward DJs, with boosted bass and highs, they have few inputs and most have limited EQ options. As a keyboard player, it’s very hard to get an acoustic piano patch to sound right through any amplification system—the sound is often colored and phasey—it usually sounds like you’re underwater. For a piano to sound right, you need to have flexible EQ to compensate for the speaker’s and the room’s acoustics. I’ve tried several brands of powered PA speakers—everyone raves about the QSCs, and they do sound great for music with strong bass, but I just couldn’t get my piano to sound right. The EV EKX-12Ps have ended my search—great for music, but also flexible enough for acoustic sounds. Best PA speaker I’ve ever tried! The 4 voicing options (live mode worked best for me) and 3-band EQ settings enabled me to create a balanced, transparent piano sound with almost no phase effect and I can save my settings in the flash memory. My organ patches are thick and warm, my EPs are punchy and bright. I can use it as a monitor wedge or put it on a stand to keep up with the shredding guitar players. I highly recommend these powered PA speakers for keyboard players.
