A Teacher's Source Book for Mathematics in Classes 1 to 5 (Making Maths Meaningful)

Watching lectures by Jamie York is much more inspiring. Text was dry and offered none of his original ideas, nor the creativity that I’ve seen in his online lectures. He makes comments as, to not allowing young children use things such a beans, in a world filled with hunger (which I can appreciate), as we would not want to promote that type of thinking within children, yet goes on to suggest using chestnuts inside. Chestnuts being a food often eaten still in Europe and other countries around the world. Unfortunatly the ignorance, and arrogance of his text was a complete turn off! I was really hoping to glean from what I had hoped and expected to be a well written, and inspiring text, but 8 was hugely disappointed. I believe the older Waldorf math publications (which he mentions that has helped himself along in his math teaching journey), would be a much more valuable resource for inspiring creativity in the math class. Sadly I purchased all of his texts, and I have never been more disappointed! Went back right away to Rightstart Math, and Beast Acadamey for my more advanced math students, and am hoping to review some of the other Waldorf math materials, but I will certainly try to preview these first!

I am continually dissatisfied with how the subject of mathematics is approached in early education system, so decided to supplement whatever my children are learning with extra practice at home. This book is wonderful at giving practical, concise information, actual goals and ideas on how to achieve them. Pleasantly written too!

Not detailed enough for parents. Should have bought home schooling kit somewhere.

Great resource. Lots of ideas and lesson planning tips and topics and a good list of additional books with helpful information around mathematics and creative teaching
