HEAVY METAL BASE IS A MUST HAVE!
Great product! The metal structure makes all the difference in the world! I always use cone thread instead of spools because they are so much less expensive and you don't have to keep changing the spool. However, I have been frustrated with a different lightweight plastic version for years. The plastic arm would bend and the base would slide around on the sewing tables when I would sew especially if I was sewing at high speeds and ALWAYS fail if I used heavy thread. All my problems were solved when I got this wonderful metal version. It never moves on the table even when sewing at high speeds and it holds rock solid with even the heaviest upholstery thread. The metal rod that holds the spool fits nice and tight even without being threaded and has never moved so I'm not sure why others are having issues. I sew a lot, often daily and have waited to review this until after using it for over 6 months. Before ordering it I searched all the local sewing stores and could never find a metal version like this. They only sold the plastic version which is worthless in my opinion. This metal cone thread stand from Amazon is well worth the cost.

Single Cone Thread Stand with Metal Base
The Single Cone Thread Stand is the handiest item I have in my Sewing Room.Allows you to use Theads of all different size Cones. I sew a lot, and using thelarger cones of thread is more economical. Not only is it more economical, it is more convenient. When I am ready to sew,I don't have to worry about running out of thread. The Cone Thread Stand is oneof the most important items in my sewing room.I teach sewing, crocheting and knitting. As part of my classes, all studentsare introduced to this item. I have bought several for my grand children who are taking the classes. The only thing I would suggest changing: "The set screw was rusty. I took them out, soaked them in machine oil, cleaned them and they are working wonderfully well".Thank You for your Prompt Service!!Highly reccomend this item to anyone who sews. Many Thanks!!

Missing parts and would NOT purchase again
The product came with absolutely no assembly instructions. Also, the screw that was supposed to hold the thread above the base was NOT included. I am very disappointed in this product.

Heavy metal stand
I did not rate light weight because I wanted the base to be heavy. Holds longer spool of thread than thread holder on my machine. Exactly as expected except the screws do not go down in the metal very far. I have not had spindle fall off or my thread drop. Happy with my purchase. It arrived within time limit seller stated.

Heavy and sturdy, does the job well
This thread stand couldn't be simpler: it is comprised of a heavy cast metal base with a hole in the center and another on the side, this one with a tightening screw. The supplied spool holding pin fits in the center (you will have to hammer it in) and the thread holding arm fits in the other hole and is tightened with the screw. Couldn't be easier, and what makes it work well is the weight of the cast metal base. The only issue is that the thin center pin does not do a good job properly holding spools that have a large inner core; for those I just wrap some fabric around the pin and tie it up with a rubber band -- not very high tech, but it does the job.Great thread holder, heavy and stable, recommended.

single cone thread holder
I liked everything about it. I don't know why I haven't bought this a long time ago. Any lady that sews a lot, don't know what she is missing. A spool of thread last a long time. I love it

Great product. Fits my smallest gutermann 100 yard spools ...
Great product. Fits my smallest gutermann 100 yard spools as well as my largest cone spools. If your machine inle has a vertical pin for side unwinding of thread, it's a great buy. Diagonal wound spools like gutermann are designed to be unwould from the top with this. Regular wound like coats are supposed to be unwould from the side. All metal. Every piece. The rod is slightly bigger than the hole I'm the base so it will need to be forced in or hammered with a mallot. (Called an interference fit) this makes for a better final build. Definirly recommend.
