Such a great planer for the price. I use it all the time. I wish it collect d the sawdust more efficiently but who cares you already know it makes sawdust.

Just Wow
Let me just say I have only been into wood working for the last 6 months, but I was a machinist for 20 years. Apples to oranges, but precision and good equipment go hand in hand. The thing is as they advertise a good solid 80 pounds. I don’t think you want this thing moving around and on small pieces I just had it sitting on the table without bolting it down yet.I forked out more money because I wanted the one with two speeds, rarely, but in this case I wanted the slower speed. Had it be the other way around and you could get the slower on cheaper I would have. I’m not running a business and speed isn’t my concern. I haven’t ran it on the fast speed, but I can say the slow speed isn’t scary. There are times when things happen and are over before you even realize it’s over. On the slow speed it’s not crazy slow, but a nice pace. The cuts are smooth as butter.

Good, but cutterhead and cutters could have been better
Worked great, out of the box. Pieces were smooth, didn't need sanded. After the cutters became worn, I rotated them for a fresh edge. Then got small lines on the wood that ran the whole length. This was caused by the edge of the new cutter side being worn off a fraction from the old cutter becoming dull and there being virtually no overlap of the cutters, which are not on afixed to a true spiral head. The cutters just go straight across, instead of a blade you have small blades. The cutters it comes with are steel, not carbide. If you can afford, I would highly suggest a true spiral cutterhead with carbide cutters. I have no complaints about the rest of the machine. Just be aware of what to expect.

Damn good planer
The only thing I would advise is that you get carbide cutters for it . The steel cutting inserts get dull after a while . Although I was running dry ash ( hardwood ) planing around 1/2" off , with multiple passes of around 1/32" . I ran about 3000 board feet before flipping cutters . The dual speed does give a finish that doesn't need to be sanded afterwards . Highly satisfied with this planer . Well built, steel construction. I'm still running the stock cutters after flipping them , and have run cherry as well with unbelievable results. I have nothing bad to say about this unit , only wishing it was wider as I have some 24" cherry live edge slabs and don't want to buy linear rails for flattening 5 slabs . If you're a hobbyist like myself and want premium quality being a perfectionist you can't go wrong with this planer. I purchased carbide cutters and as soon as these are spent they will be changed out , although I don't think I can get a better finish, the carbide cutters should last longer than the steel cutters .
