Q: Is it real copper metal? The description says "copper finish" which sounds like paint.

I don't think the numbers are actual copper. The clock is metal, but very light. The numbers are dark copper colored, with the appearance of solder where they attach to the round metal. It's a very nice looking clock, and hanging on a wall you wouldn't know if it is real copper or not. I am happy with it, especially at this price.

Q: Is this an open back clock?

Yes. It is just as you see it in the picture. Metal frame work only so that you can see your wall color thru the clock. No glass, plastic or other material is showing.

Q: Does it have a loud ticking noise?

I dislike loud ticking noises as well. I would say this has a very soft ticking sound. Works well for my main room... but would still bother me of in my bedroom. It is quieter than any other ticking clock I have had in the house.
