Functional but makes VERY LOW quality recordings.
I love it that this microphone works with my iPhone 7 (you just need the lightning adapter that came with the phone) AND it also works with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 2015). I searched for a long time before I found an affordable microphone that would definitely work with Mac and iPhone. I just plug it into the headphone jack on the MacBook, but I do have to use the small adapter (that came with the microphone) to make it work. The directions were simple and very easy to understand.I'm very disappointed, though, that THE QUALITY OF MY RECORDINGS DID NOT IMPROVE AT ALL WITH THIS MICROPHONE. On the iPhone, I use it for voice recordings (not singing, just speaking/sharing information for educational use). Before I bought this microphone, I was speaking into the iPhone microphone WHILE RESTING THE PHONE ON MY LAP, so the quality of the recordings was pretty low. You had to turn the recording up all the way just to hear it clearly for playback. I thought that having a microphone clipped to my shirt would make the recording so much better, but it doesn't make my voice ANY louder or clearer than it was when I just had the iPhone sitting on my lap with no external microphone attached.It DOES make background noise less noticeable and it IS convenient to have the microphone clipped to my shirt when I move around during a recording. For those reasons, I will continue to use the microphone for my iPhone voice recordings.I wanted to use this microphone for writing emails with dictation on my MacBook, but there was no improvement with the quality of the dictation function, either. This may just be a problem with the crummy dictation that comes built-in with the MacBook; it's so inferior to using dictation on the iPhone.However, when using dictation with this microphone, my words are still very consistently misunderstood and misspelled; it's the same low quality dictation I experienced when using no microphone at all.The one advantage is that I can hold the microphone close to my mouth when I dictate and I don't have to speak up so loudly. So, once again, I will continue to use it for that one small improvement.I assume that I'll have to buy a much more expensive microphone with a built in lightning cord to get the sound I'm looking for, but this one will definitely be used until then.
