Golden Delicious: A Cinderella Apple Story
**N
Stories to share with children about West Virginia.
The Golden Delicious Apple was discovered in West Virginia! I enjoyed learning the what, the when, the where, and who discovered this apple. And it was written by a West Virginia author, Anna Egan Smucker.

Excellent and accurate account of discovering the golden delicious apple
This book is an accurate account of how the "Mullins Yellow Seedling" was discovered by Anderson Mullins(my great uncle),later sold to the Stark Brothers Nursery and eventually named and sold as the "Golden Delicious" Apple.

Lovely children's book
This award-winning author has a brilliant way of taking ordinary things and making them magical for children (as in No Starry Nights, 1989). This book makes a Christmas gift that parents will love to keep and pass down to grandchildren.

But we'd love this book even without the personal connection
Our three year old son can't get enough of this story! We pair it with a Golden Delicious apple snack and he loves comparing his impressions of the taste with that of AH Mullins and the Stark Brothers. Our son also loves the pieces about travel in the early 20th century (it took a train ride and a horse ride to get from Missouri to West Virginia) and about how grafting apple trees works. It's the story behind something he sees during every grocery visit, which has led him to ask where other common foods/items are from.As a disclaimer, I am originally from Clay County, WV, where the apple was discovered. But we'd love this book even without the personal connection.

Colorful and Tasty!
It's that time of year, apple picking season in New England! I love reading this book to my kids around this time. They love the pictures and the story and the fact that it's a true one!
