militarty poss not fun def yes.
delivered quickly as described no damage well packagedbecause there is no 'recognisable' item next to the match in the picture it is sometimes hard to get a perspective of what the dimensions will be like in reality, so to clarify, this match is small. the boddy is about the size of 2 regular first class stamps side by side and about the thickness of 3 pound coins stacked up. it has a small, not very strong looking or feeling clip to attach it to a key ring I suppose. It is used by unscrewing about two or three turns a thing that looks a bit like a tyre valve. When you pull it out the 'valve is the end of small tube that surrounds a long flint encased in wadding which smells like its soaked in some sort of fuel. Now run/stroke/strike the flint/wadding end along the channel in the side of the main housing. you'll probably need to do this two or three times and a spark will flare up and it will by jingo be a flame. The metal housing of the whole thing just wraps round three sides of it - the fourth being where the channel for striking is. the top and bottom just being the plasticky material of the body.Whether the 'wadding' burns away or the flint part wears down or if you need to replenish fuel or not I have no idea - there were no instruction.I don't know if it is water proof or if it wont work when soaked. I don't intend to try soaking it to found out it ruins it - I aint rich enough. but it does say its waterproof and there is a rubber seal round the valve bit. If you are going to use this for survival I'd say your life is worth investing a little more for a specialised version. As far as I'm concerned this is a novelty/fun item. Then again what do I know perhaps our military is so cash strapped they do issue these but I'd be less afraid of an army that considers this 'military' standard.ACID TEST: would I buy it again/recommend? - for fun YES

Novelty it is not!
This was a disappointing purchase to say the least.Certainly find it hard to believe it was Zippo as marked as Zippo is associated with rugged , high quality items that work!. Wick is feeble and will not last. Hard to strike and difficult to light.Lucky to get match to ignite at all after many strikes. If soldiers had had to rely on such a device in the war, they would have never had time for a cigarette in the trenches. A waste of money.Don't buy!

Looks well made
Unused as yet, but first impression is a well made piece of kit, will update, once I have had a proper play with it

Military waterproof match lighter
Very useful piece of equipment particularly if you haven't got any matches or your matches are wet. It doesn't always light as quickly as it might but it is a great addition to our camping kit.

Novelty factor only
Disappointed with this product for a number of reasons. Firstly it is quite difficult to light, much more difficult than a standard match. Secondly the wick quality is very poor. It is only on one side of the striker, whereas (according to a youTube video) there should be two wicks, one on either side. Thirdly, the coating on the flint needs to considerably wear off before a spark can be achieved.I bought this based on the youTube video (which coincidently is very good and suggest you watch before purchase). I'm not sure whether this particular Permanent Match is an original or whether it is an inferior copy, but I didn't have much success with it. Only lights under duress and once fired-up can only be used for a few seconds before the wick burns. Now the novelty is over, I've filed it in the bin.Delivery and price OK, so no problems with the supplier, hence two stars not one.Verdict. Novelty factor to show your mates, but not a serious contender for practical purposes. Would hate to be freezing up a mountain having to rely on it for a light. Matches, lighter or two sticks vigorously rubbed together would probably be my favoured choice.

Great
Technique required. Is a dinky little item but works fine and as described.Very happy. Don't let the fluid in the match dry out else you're burning the wick. if it takes more that a few seconds to light your fire you haven't prepared it enough.
