I like the slim, stainless-steel with gold trim look, so I have assembled four very similar-looking fountain pens that all have the ss/gt option: Diplomat Traveller, Pilot Cavalier, Waterman Hemisphere, and this Swisslaw. When you compare photos of this Swisslaw to the Parker Sonnet, you can tell that imitating that is the goal. But the Sonnet is over $100, so not on my acquisition list (yet). The Pilot and Swisslaw are flawless and perform beautifully. Dipomat writes beautifully and I really enjoy it, but they are sending me a new nib unit including grip because it cracked. The Waterman is being shipped back to France--it skips. But I digress.I almost didn't get the Swisslaw because of the "imitation" factor, but I'm so glad I got it. There are so many details that make it a GREAT pen, but I'll mention two: (1) The metal ring around the end of the grip (where the nib and feed emerge) keeps my fingers off of the nib AND more importantly, provides a solid spot for the cap to click onto. (I think my Diplomat grip cracked because the cap-click fits so tightly!) (2) The smoothness of the cap click--you can tell this is a well-engineered pen--just super-solid.No, the nib is not made of gold. It's under $20! But I think it writes beautifully, has good weight, and easy to pick up, use, and put back down. I keep picking it up!

The set received is very nice and professional - a great gift set! I bought this per ratings/ reviews as an inexpensive gift to include in a pen box display gift for my husband's desk. He had already started a collection of fountain pens but had nowhere to keep them all in one place. This pen would be a good recommendation for someone who is starting out in the world of fountain pens, but if you already have a collection and have used some of the best out there, then your experience with this pen may be weighted with disappointment because of the actual writing.

This turns out to be a surprisingly good pen. Inexpensive, bought it on a whim. It writes very well, has a satisfying snap when putting the cap back on, comes with an ink converter, very attractive. Two thumbs up!

Delightfully pleased with this pen. It writes very smoothly and the nib provides for a very nice line thickness. I have a number of pens I cycle through on a given day and some I use daily - this is one of the daily use pens!

no instructions for refilling or changing to cartridge-- not easy to figure out

I've ordered two pens (the rollerball and fountain) from Swisslaw. Both pens are great, the fountain looks and feels very luxurious and rich. Good build quality. Loved It!
