Rocket Raccoon: Guardian Of The Keystone Quadrant (Marvel Pocket Book) (Marvel Pocket Books)

Its a terrific introduction to the character and his background
Remember reading bits of this story in the 80's when it was used by Marvel UK as a back strip for Transformers. Definitely worth reading again, even over 30 years later. Its a terrific introduction to the character and his background. Also like the pocket book format as it was delivered comfortably without requiring a signature.

Dissapointing
No Spoilers. A collection of some of the first stories of everyones favourite foul mouthed, hilarious, kick ass Raccoon from Guardians Of The Galaxy…except he’s nothing like he is in the movie. This graphic novel isn’t good. So Pre-Guardians of The Galaxy, Rocket lives on this planet full of talking animals and robots and his job is to look after these mentally ill humans who live there. Over the course of the book we find out how the animals came to speak, why the humans are there and why they look after them in this Space Opera filled with epic space battles against other animals. The plot is…different, there is a hint of Secret Of Nimh and a few interesting ideas but the dialogue is so awful. It’s pure exposition and it feels like a really cheap and bad 1940s sci-fi. It’s not funny, takes itself way too seriously and is way too long. Mike Mignola’s artwork is of course good and it is original. There are some extra one shot comics included, a HULK one that’s ok and a Groot story that sucks. Well done to future writers recognising the potential this character has and making him the awesome bro we love today because I didn’t see any of that potential in this. Not worth buying or even your time reading to be honest.
