Beautifully done
I am a fan of the more modern Austen adaptations on the whole, as I feel they are far more relevant to the common viewer.Indeed this film does leave out several key features from the novel. However this aids its 'likeability' factor and keeps the viewer engaged. One finds themselves supporting Fanny and wishing her well, rather than urging her to 'get a life'!Personally I love the Aunt in this version, the point where Edmund realises he is in love with Fanny is beautifully done & the Aunt plays a clever part in pushing Edmund along. This is followed by a lovely scene between her and her husband; which makes their marriage believable, much like that between the Bennets in the modern Pride & Prejudice.Along with stunning scenary and good acting all round, this is well worth adding to your Jane Austen collection.

Perfect Period Drama, Jane Austen Classic
I thought the film was very interesting, it follows the book quite well in style and captures the most important part of the story as much as a film based on a book can.

Very good, I thought - shame you can't fit the whole thing into an hour and a half, but it was very good. Especially Billie Piper, who I'd heard was not a good actor, but she did a great job. Everyone was well cast, it looked great and Ms Piper was just charming. Well worth it.

Excellent story and performance
Billy Piper, which have been seen in Doctor Who, is perfect as the young girl Fanny Price who falls in love with her only friend in her new home Mansfield Park. Edmund, who is also her counsin is of course oblivious of Fanny's affection for him but he finally finds out and discover his own true feelings.Billie Piper is the only actor who is known to me but even though, the experience is magnificent. The actors are amusing and act as you would expect for a person in the early 1800.I have always loved Pride and Prejudice (both story and series not the movie) and Mansfield Park comes as a close second after in my opinion.

Hard to understand today.
This is a discount film version of the story, but I actually quite like it. The Fanny of the original story is a longsuffering, seemingly brokenspirited heroine, hard to understand and accept from a modern point of view. Admirably an earlier longer television version from the 80s tried to show that, and succeeded I think, but a modern audience would not get it.It is actually quite hard to see, why theatricals should be an almost deadly sin, unless seen in relation to the novels discussion of sincerety vs. insincerety, the worldly Crawfords against the Christian unworldliness of Edmund and Fanny. Mansfield Park is a serious novel, not a comedy. A comedy would have paired the serious Edmund with the spirited Mary and let Henry be reformed by Fanny. In this film version Fanny is a bit of a waif, a little lost, but not without spirit, and I think Billie Piper gets that quite well. The other actors are good too. The film is a bit understated perhaps, good vs. evil toned down, but to a modern audience that is more convincing.

Not all Bad.......Could have been Better......Still enjoyed it...
After reading mixed reviews on this production. I thought I would take a gamble and purchase this. Okay I would not say that this is a 5 star production. The screen play could of been written a little better and filming in one location does restrict the production. However this is (as one review puts it)a non offensive production unlike the 1999 film where Henry and Maria are in a sex scene. Which is not appropriate for Jane Austen. After viewing this I found myself wanting to read the novel. I would recommend this to any Jane Austen fan. However if you are looking for a production that will blow you away this is not one of them. But what it this is is a nice introduction to Jane Austen novel.I would like to see BBC make another Mansfield Park which will give time for story telling. A BBC remake is well over due. Perhaps BBC can improve on their awful 1983 production and like the BBC 1995 P&P make another classic that would make all JA fans fall in love with her novels all over again. At the same time creating a new generation of JA fans.
