A good book but...
I sincerely enjoyed this book. The tension between the characters is undeniable and their relation passionate.Nonetheless, I think it was a bit rush and the story too compartmentalized. They fall in love in a few days. We get the impression the king hadn't even met her, he was already in love, and although she pretends to hate him, this "hate" only lasts a few pages (I read the exerpt on Kindle and at the end of it, the "enemy" vibe I was getting from the synopsis had already disapeared ).Their relation takes a few pages to be built and when the action arises it seems there is no room for development anymore and another "part" of the story begins. As a result, I got the impression the love story was at the beginning and the plot story at the end. I would've liked those to be more blended.Anyway, it is still worth your attention. It is a display of the restorative power of love and how it can mend a destroyed heart. We have a strong and powerful female lead character who doesn't let disrespect step on her toes and a notorious king who may hide his true tender nature to protect himself.

That’s it?!!?
Where is the rest of this story? It didn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger, but c’mon! These stories usually end in HEA for the most part and I feel like this is building towards a five book series at best. Either that or a ridiculously long and overly drawn out book 4… kinda like that Shifter Island series that left me with a huge headache over how downhill a series can go.There were so many loose ends here that I kept hoping would be addressed and then suddenly… no more book. Madness! But let’s talk about what Ms. Stone did give us here. Maddie’s story resembled one of those that we’ve seen countless times of high born women getting sold off to satisfy the needs of men. At first I really didn’t see where this story was going and then we got the “twist.” I almost took offense at how the author glossed over Maddie’s plight and everything that happened to her and was hoping for more discussion about how everything was so overwhelming. When that didn’t happen, I began to wonder if this was a missed opportunity… but after the rescue scene I was struck with how brilliant this version of events played out could be. What happened to Maddie and the whole legality of her wedding and all that it really means is something that still happens to this day. Culture is culture and although history continues to repeat itself, it doesn’t make it less true. Stone’s inclusion of the forceable arranged marriage makes you think about all those teen brides that had to leave the comfort and safety of their homelands and were defiled by strange men and basically had to make due on their own in impossible situations. On top of that we could even go the route of unplanned pregnancy sprouting from this very legal union and all that it comes with. Let’s face it, Maddie may have been in summer for like 2 days at most, but she did end up consummating both marriages in roughly a week’s time.Other odds and ends… what happened to her Father? Him stepping aside doesn’t change the fact that he did what he did. Did Maddie keep the winter power? She didn’t even bother to check after Lucien confirmed he had his back. So Arwen brought the kids along to the war, did her mom and sister come too? What became of Piper? Did Maddie’s mom really lose her power, was it confirmed? Are we really not gonna know what happened on the rest of this trip up to the mountain? This series follows the perspective of the female protagonist who will ultimately lead beside the other kings. Soooo, how will we know what happened behind closed doors when the 3 queens go see Axil?

4.5☆ Lucien and Madelyn
I think this is my favourite of the books so far 😍 I loved Lucien and the fact that his reputation and the man that Madelyn met had her all flustered. Just like Lucien I loved Madelyns slightly murderous side and she wasn't afraid to use her power to protect herself. I can't wait for the fourth book now to see how the series all comes together 🙌 I hope Leia does go with her idea of doing a book for a possible son of the nightfall queen.Arranged marriages were common practice among the fae and Madelyn always knew eventually she'd be married off but she never expected her father to agree to allow her to marry the ruthless fae king Lucien Thorne, the rumors around him are vile and paint him as the monster everyone fears but the man that steps into her childhood home is different person entirely. With no choice they set off on a tour to announce their engagement and the longer Madelyn spends in Luciens presence the more she questions if the rumors hold and merit at all, because Lucien is anything but cruel even if she has glimpsed his temper a few times. But his reputation does proceed him and their reception is not welcoming in all the courts, two of which are planning a rebellion to break off from his rule entirely. Summer and Spring courts don't believe that going to war with the nightfall queen as rumors predict should involve the fae at all and so the prince of Summer does the unthinkable and betrays the king in more ways than one. But Mercelle should fear more than the king in his actions, because Madelyn won't go down without a fight. The king may have just met his match in his betrothed.Definitely Recommend Reading 📚
