Has worked great with our chimney & smoker (see other review)Burns long. Will be getting again. If you haven't got a chimney to light it, get one.**Edit**The problem with this product is that the supplier changes all the time.I have just bought a second load of this - same Amazon item - but came from a different supplier and the lumps of coal are MUCH smaller.I wonder if that explains the disparity of reviews?I was a 5* reviewer last year, and 1 star this year, so 3* on average.Seems wrong that another merchant can take over previous reviews and start selling different quality product.

Cheaper in B&Q
Bought 2x 12 Kg bags for £34 then B&Q starts selling it for £12 per bag two days after. I guess delivery costs inflated the online price.Quite happy with product but obviously I'll be heading for B&Q while stocks last. In fact I'll be stocking up for next summer should the price drop any lower circa the end of Autumn when there is usually a clearance in preparation for Winter.

Hit and miss quality
Bought this charcoal for my Kamado BBQ about 5 times now. The last delivery was excellent quality with about 80% nice big lumps, about 10% small pieces and 10% chips and useless dust - I can live with this. However on a couple of other occasions I only had 50% nice lumps with about a third useless bits. It is however great value for money when it's good quality and delivery is always prompt. You pays your money and takes your chances with this stuff.....good luck!

Still value for money.
Bought 2 bags of this last year and they were great. Got 2 more for this year and opened up one this weekend (10/3/16) and was a tad disappointed. The content of this one looks to be mainly small chippings. Not what I expected. Naturally it still works - of course it does after all it's still charcoal butI suppose I was spoilt with the quality of the product last year. Will I buy again? Yes because even with my disappointment, it is still a good product for the money.

Perfect charcoal in nice big lumps
This charcoal is the best. We have a large oil drum style BBQ and a tandoori oven and the usual charcoal from the supermarket is too small and eventually all falls through the grill on my BBQ. This charcoal is in huge lumps bigger than your fist, it burns really well with just a couple of firelighters and stays warm for a long time due to it's size. The taste is great as well. and if you compare the price of smaller bags of charcoal from the supermarket, this works out much better. It did take four days for delivery but I wasn't in any hurry for it and these two bags should last me throughout whats left of the summer. Mine wasn't powdered at all it was nice big chunks.

Mainly good - one small issue, one big issue.
This is generally good value and I'm using it successfully on my Kamado BBQ for both grilling and low and slow. However it loses 1/2 star as there are quite a lot of small chunks and dust (~10%) - there are, however some massive ones too which are really good It loses 1.5 stars for using the Hermes delivery service which is (google it!) appalling.

Good sized pieces in general but many are not fully ...
Not restaurant grade. Good sized pieces in general but many are not fully carbonized and there were some pieces of clay in the bag. It is hard to start and sparks violently making it hard to tip out the chimney without being burned. The burn is OK overall and better than standard gas station charcoal, but there are much better options available.

Really good and cheaper than some rivals
I have previously been wary of purchasing lumpwood coal other than the official BGE lumpwood, I needn't have worried, this coal is as good, yes is sparks a bit when you first ignite it, but once it gets going it burns a wonderfully clean smoke that produces some amazing flavours.I have used this coal for cooking your standard BBQ fayre and also for low and slow brisket, 12-15 hour smoke on one batch, this coal can do it all. Forget Briquettes, lumpwood is best and at almost half the price of BGE, this is a sure winner.
