Great but use with caution!
When I found this book to help me through my uni course I thought, great! This is going to improve my essays so much... the phrases sound really flashy and it expanded my vocabulary a lot... however, when I asked a french friend to take a look at my work, she informed me that many of the expressions I had selected are either not commonly used or did not translate well in french. I bought the spanish one too, with the same results! It is a good book, but I would say verify the phrases you select with another external source before putting them into that all important essay!

A great travelling and study companion!
Great teaching tool! This useful little book is complete and clearly presented. The presentation and format add to the enjoyment and make it a very helpful travelling companion. It can also be used by students needing to learn short lists of vocabulary.

Good study resource
I used this book in addition to other material to prepare for my higher French exam. It helped me learn new vocabulary and phrases that weren't included in other study guides. Overall nice little book which should be used in conjunction with other material.

Trop Mot à mot
The concept behind this book is great, as I really needed something to improve my vocab. However, I found a certain percentage of the words/phrases weren't really ever used by native speakers in whatever register. It also gives no context to the words of phrases so you have a fair chance of getiing the usage wrong. That's the criticism but obviously there were some really useful words/phrases however I relegated this book to a dusty place on my bookshelf after one too many quizical looks from my French language partners. There are better ways to learn vocabulary.

BUY THIS ONE!
An excellent book with many useful and UP TO DATE idioms. Couldn't fault it. I would strongly recommend this book for intermediate to advanced students.Compares very favourably with Collins Websters easy learning French idioms whch although available cheaply has very few idioms that are up to date and usable in everyday speech. Give that one a miss.BUY THIS ONE!

The best and only book you will need to improve your French for speaking and writing
An invaluable little book that I used all throughout my A Level studies, and am still using at university! It is split up into many different topics, if you follow the AQA exam board as I did, then all of the topics studied will be in Mot à Mot. There are so many great phrases- ones that I would never have thought of using when speaking English, but in French will add depth and idiomatic expressions to your vocabulary. I found that I could use expressions that French teachers would never think of teaching you, and were extremely impressed by them!

Fantastic book for AS or A level students
Bought this book for my son at his request, with his AS French oral exam looming. It is full of fantastically useful phrases and vocabulary on all the main exam topics. Also, at the beginning it has a section of useful phrases to use when speaking/writing - eg how to say you like something, how to give an opinion, etc etc. I wish I'd had a book like this when I did my A level all those years ago! Buy this book, you won't regret it!
