Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton star in this easy viewing movie.A 'time of life story' of a couple who have spent their whole married life living in the home they love.An apartment with stairs that are becoming difficult for them and for their beloved dog. A dilemma faced by many later in life .Add in pushy estate agents and the stories of the would be purchasers and you get an interesting, if slow moving tale.Will they stay or will they go?

If you're after action, this movie isn't for you, but if you want an easy to watch film that's interesting and clever, you will enjoy this.The storyline isn't exciting at all; they decide to sell their house and buy another one. That's it. But it's clever in the way it's woven around a terrorist holding everyone to ransom on the day which affects the property prices and tempers.Good clean entertainment with two brilliant lead actors. You'll smile at the end.

I like Morgan freeman and Diane keaton and they were fine here.Amazon has the movie listed as a comedy drama. Comedies I love, dramas not so much. This isn't a comedy. There's no funny scenes. It's very much a drama. It's the type of drama where there's not really a storyline and I guess the makers just want to show you a snippet of a certain topic. It wasn't my cup of tea, but if you like simplistic dramas then this would be for you. It's pleasant enough and I didn't mind it being on in the background.My only gripe was it did seem like they were trying to give a message. The message was, in my eyes, not quite executed effectively.

This is a lovely little film that probably won't appeal to all, but will click with those of a certain age group or disposition.It may seem a slight tale; a rather elderly couple - he a painter, she a retired teacher – decide to move from the Brooklyn apartment they have owned for 40 years; cue all the circus of selling and searching for a new home plus sub-plots of a hunt for an apparent terrorist in the neighbourhood and the illness of the couple's much-loved dog. It is a wry comedy, with flashbacks telling the couple's story over the years.Keaton and Freeman give convincing performances (as do Claire van der Boom and Korey Jackson as their younger selves) and I personally identified with Alex and his attitude to his art - I particularly smiled at Ruth's put-down of their gallery-owning friend. It is no shallow Woody Allen clone, but is warm-hearted and celebrates New York city in it's own particular way.The cinematography is excellent.The UK DVD release (the film is known as “5 Flights Up” in the US) has no extras or subtitles at all, which is rather a shame. It is an adaptation of the novel “Heroic Measures” by Jill Ciment.

What is there not to love about Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton? Mt Freeman gets to do his "Shawshank" narration and Ms Keaton gets to wear a beret and sit on the "Manhattan Bench" again.Nice story about an "autumn years" couple negotiating downsizing in their life and the process of selling a home they have been in for decades, Throw in a dog back story and the above elements and the result is a very pleasant way to spend an evening,

Coming from Brooklyn myself, there were fond memories of the dirt and grit of the place and the encounter with these real people. Love conquers all they say and there is plenty of down-to-earth love in the story - including by and for the dog, Dorothy. The exchanges with the real estate agents, the buyers and sellers of the flats is especially poignant - but more so, in the freedom Ruth and Alex find in making their own decision. Great film.

It was a lovely film that you can just sit back and enjoy. Love Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman.,

I tried to vote 1 star, but that is summarised as "I hate it" - and thats not true, you can't hate something like this. Its just nothing. There's nothing that is in any way disturbing, in fact it appears to say nothing, be nothing. It is two wonderful actors being totally wasted with a script that has no point; it is everyday dialogue between an older couple seemingly selling their apartment in Brooklyn to find one with an elevator. At about the same price (in fact a bit more expensive, so not even downsizing). The script is everyday language about everyday things - to the point that you feel like you're eaves-dropping on a reality TV show. Except this is Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton! An absolute waste of everyone's time - including mine.

Dieser Satz von Alex(Morgan Freeman/Korey Jackson) beinhaltet eigentlich alles, was mich zu -Ruth & Alex- bewegt. Er sagt ihn, als er gefragt wird, warum er seine Wohnung verkaufen will. Richard Loncraines hat, nach dem Roman "Heroic Measures" von Jill Ciment, eine sanfte, zärtliche Geschichte auf die Filmrolle gebannt. Die geht vor allem um den Verkauf und Kauf einer Wohnung, und man fragt sich am Ende: Ja, warum eigentlich? Dieser zentrale Punkt der Geschichte war für mich nur wenig nachvollziehbar. Das war es dann aber auch schon, was ich an Kritik zu bieten hätte. Ansonsten ist -Ruth & Alex- anspruchsvolles Kino mit einer wunderbaren Erzählstimme, stimmigen Rückblenden, schlauen Dialogen und hervorragendem Schauspiel. Einfach ein Film zum anschauen und genießen. Ruhig, entspannt, zufrieden und mit einem Schmunzeln auf den Lippen kann man sich das ansehen...Die ehemalige Lehrerin Ruth(Diane Keaton/Claire Van Der Boom) und der Maler Alex sind seit 40 Jahren verheiratet und leben in einer Wohnung in Brooklyn. Jetzt wollen sie die Wohnung verkaufen, da das Treppensteigen zu anstrengend wird. Dazu wird auch noch ihr Hund Dorothy krank und muss soll eine horrende Rechnung operiert werden. Ihre Bekannte Lily(Cynthia Nixon) tritt für sie als Maklerin auf. Als die ersten Wohnungsbesichtigung stattfindet, müssen Ruth und Alex feststellen, dass sie von respektlosen Hipstern und Neards umgeben sind. Doch sie wollen das durchziehen. Gleichzeitig sehen sich die beiden nach einer neuen Wohnung um. Auch das ist schwierig. Doch Ruth und Alex haben in ihrem Leben schon ganz andere Hindernisse gemeistert...Ein ruhiger, schöner Film. Das ist -Ruth & Alex-. Wie gesagt, die Sache mit der Wohnung muss man nicht eins zu eins logisch nachfragen, aber der Rest der Produktion ist sehr, sehr gut gelungen. Nicht gerade etwas für Action-Fans, aber ganz sicher etwas für Freunde von anspruchsvollem Kino. In diesem Sinne: Viel Spaß beim Anschauen.

"Ruth & Alex - Verliebt in New York" ist ein wirklich schöner Film. Ich habe den Film nach etwas stöbern im Angebot bei Netflix entdeckt und nachdem er hier aus dem Programm genommen wurde, musste ich ihn mir auf Blu-ray kaufen. In den Hauptrollen sind Morgan Freeman und Diane Keaton zu sehen.Ruth & Alex sind ein älteres Ehepaar das seit vielen vielen Jahren in einer schönen Wohnung in New York leben. Allerdings in einem Haus ohne Aufzug und auch als späte Vorbereitung aufs weitere älter werden wollen die beiden ihre Wohnung verkaufen um das Geld in eine neue mehr alten gerechte Wohnung zu investieren.Doch der Verkauf der eigenen Wohnung sowie die Suche nach einer neuen Wohnung gestaltet sich relativ schwierig und anstrengend.Momentan ist es bei mir so das an manchen Tagen und / oder auch Abenden ich keine große Action mehr brauche. Weder persönlich noch im TV und so bin ich immer wieder auch auf der Suche nach sehr ruhigen Filmen die einen auch ruhig unterhalten. Und dieser Film erfüllt diese Anforderungen perfekt.Morgan Freeman sowie Diane Keaton passen perfekt zu ihren Rollen. Sie kommen den Anforderungen hier perfekt nach. Der Film versteift sich dabei nicht auf den Verkauf der Wohnung oder der Suche nach einer neuen sondern zeigt in mehreren Rückblenden die beiden auch noch jung und in ihren Anfängen als Paaren. Und die den vielen Wohnungsbesichtigungen die hier gezeigt werden kommt auch der Humor nicht zu kurz.Die Handlung ist sehr überschaubar. Sie überfordert einen nicht. Die Handlung alleine trägt aber auch nicht die Unterhaltung. Die guten Darsteller, die einfache Handlung und die kritischen Töne sowie die leichten und humorigen Anspielungen, das alles zusammen schafft es einen den Film als Gesamtwerk genießen zu lassen und einen somit auch wirklich zu unterhalten."Ruth & Alex" ist so wirklich ein toller Film den ich, wenn ich ihn nicht zufällig bei Netflix gefunden hätte, wohl nie was erfahren hätte. Noch nicht mal bei Wikipedia gibt es einen Eintrag über ihn. Somit ein unterschätzter Film der viel mehr Beachtung verdient hätte. Es müssen nämlich nicht immer Filme mit viel Action und sonstigem sein was einen doch regelmäßig überfordert sowie eine Handlung die so überlagert ist das man hier und da garnicht mehr folgen kann und am ende des Films garnicht weiß wieso das eine oder andere passiert ist. Hier ist das nicht so. Man kann den Film einfach genießen von der ersten bis zur letzten Sekunde des Films.

En fait, je me reconnais assez et je reconnais aussi mes parents, dans ce couple au crépuscule de leur vie à deux...Fragiles et forts en même temps. Fragiles parce que les années défilent inexorablement et forts de leurs expériences respectives. Ils sont très attendrissants.Donc, j'ai A.DO.RE.Ah, nostalgie, nostalgie, quand tu nous tiens !
