I've got this mounted in my van with the pin facing upwards. Easy to remove and put back. Remove the top pin holding the mounting pin in place. Pull mounting pin downwards. Good to take to the jobsite outlet. Retraction works fine. It's heavy (but, we're talking 50ft here). Sure beats winding up cords all the time. Especially after a long day at work. I like it.

I have been wanting a cord reel for years. I always put it off for other things. Recently I had enough of putting it off. I purchased this one. Don't know why I waited. This is so much better than dragging extension cords around the garage.This is a heavy unit. It needs to be mounted to a wall stud or ceiling joist. If you want it to be portable, just pull the pin & remove the reel unit from the mounting bracket. I got mine on the ceiling. It has plenty of power to lift the cord up to my 11' ceiling.The cord is heavy but still flexible. The outlet end seems heavy duty & it grips the plugged in cord tightly. Your power tools will not just come unplugged by themselves.I do wish the "power on" light was momentary. Even if it is a very small light, it seems wasteful to have it on 24 hours a day. Maybe have a small power check button? Push the button, light comes on, you have power, release button, get to work.

Reviewing immediately after installation and testing. Wished the wire was thicker gauge but they just don't offer a 10 AWG option. Tested with shop vac (9 amp rating). With line voltage 118 volts, I got a drop to 115 volts AT THE WALL RECEPTACLE but I got a drop from 118 to 113 at the end of the extension cord. So far, the reel retracts adequately. The cord guide is not intuitive and tends to promote bunching of cord on one side of the reel. You cannot direct the cord to the other side of the reel by angling the cord because the wall attachment hinge moves and you just end up still directing the wire to the same side of the reel. The plastic housing seems adequate for now. I can't say I'm confident it will hold up well in the long run.
