great for when it's needed as long as you have a water bottle
I got this for foreign travel to bring along just in case. I always bring a filtered water bottle on my trips to Peru because inevitably I will run out of store-bought bottled water and have to drink filtered tap water at my wife's family home. This will give me yet another option and smaller form factor for those types of semi-emergency situations where I don't want to deal with the sickness that I always get on such trips. That said I haven't tried this yet as we're not going overseas until next year. I can also use this on extreme hiking/camping trips and will always bring it along just in case a tame trip somehow becomes an extreme survival situation. Unfortunately this does need a water bottle to screw onto, so a lifestraw or likewise device is even better in that situation. Water is the first necessity you'll need to survive, so having this is priceless.

Works but is larger size for backpacking
I got this to put in my backpack as an emergency use tool for day hiking. I tested it on a few hikes and it works fine to filter water. It is a bit complicated to use and takes up a lot of space in my backpack. It is lightweight but larger. Due to its larger size, I moved it out of my hiking gear and into my emergency kit in the car.

Great survival item
We have this on hand for survival. It is great. It is easy to carry, compact and lightweight at the same time. It seems really well made. I feel better having this on hand in case any emergency were to come up.

No idea how to use this
The instructions provided with the filter are unclear. I tried stepping through it but all attempts were futile. Not the easiest product to use. Maybe they should upload a user education video or tutorial. I have yet to try it to see the effectiveness of the filter

Does a great job
I got this for backpacking, and tested it out with unfiltered house water. It does a great job! TDS decreased from about 70 to around 15. Chlorine, which is always strong in our water, noticeably decreased. I can't say that it removed all bacteria and viruses, but I didn't get sick after drinking from it. So for a lightweight filter, it does a great job.

Filters OK, but not completely.
In a bugout or extreme survival situation, I would certainly use this. However, I would still hopefully have the means to boil the water.I did some testing of it and some fine particulate matter must still pass through as the water did not fully clear up.Your mileage may vary, but it does filter.... just not completely enough for me to feel 100% safe with it.

Good filter for hiking
I think most people use two plastic water bottles. Have one for collecting, and the other for drinking. This works well for that type of system. you just let gravity do the work or help it a bit with a squeeze and you get decent drinking water. Taste isnt perfect depending on water source, but it works well enough.
