DAREDEVIL & ELEKTRA BY CHIP ZDARSKY VOL. 3: THE RED FIST SAGA PART THREE

Goodbyes and New Beginnings!
Chip Zdarsky took Daredevil on an incredible journey. It started with Daredevil recovering from a life-threatening experience to serving time, to Devil's Reign, and to Hell and back! In this journey, we get to see how much Elektra has changed when she takes on the mantle of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen! As Zdarsky's run comes to an end, we get to see Matt Murdock's greatest fight ever. Everything else prepared him for this. This is a great end to a great series that will lead to a new chapter for the Daredevils.

Great ending
This was one of the better runs of Dardevil in the past decade. The final volume was very well done. If only Marvel would allow the story of Matt Murdock to end here, it would be a fitting ending for the character. Of course, as I write this, the next series is already out, with Matt back as DD. Oh well. Chip Zdarsky did great things with all the characters, and always told a great, well written story.

Daredevil's next fight.
Its a good resolution to Zdarsky's run. Ironically most writers never figure out what to do with the Hand. Zdarsky's run was stronger when it was grounded.

Redeemed ending if the whole is uneven
Zdarsky manages to pull off a great final issue and reset for the character. How we get there is maybe confusing and not fully thoughtout. The biggest issue with the three volumes of Daredevil & Elektra is that it feels rushed. Things just happen. An entire world-shaking plotline - all the world leaders are in the thrall of the Hand - is just flatout ignored in this volume. No mention, not even a handwave. Matt's journey to hell feels like it should have been an entire volume and not one confusing issue with unclear stakes. The art is back to Checcetto and there are some amazing sequences. Characters die and come back comically easily, motivations are forgotten. But the last issue saves it. It has nothing interesting to say about prophecy or faith, it's just more of the same for Matt. But the last issue feels good. I would venture to say that this would have been a better ending point for Matt after Devil's Reign and the whole Hand story could have been missed and ended in the same place. In the end Zdarsky's run feels uneven as a whole story. Rushed, cut, missing, elements introduced late that only gummed it up. But there's also some great bits in here.

Last rites
An awesome ending to the series. I see where all the religious references from the series come into play in this book. After the devastating loss of the last book. Matt Murdock is broken. Has he got the strength for one more fight? What if the final lesson from the book of the Fist? The book brings everything full circle, I would be really interested to see if the next writer decides to build on this or start completely over. This is a must-read for any fan of the character or, especially, this series run. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery.

Very enjoyable finish
This is a very enjoyable finish to the run. A lot happens and there are a few twists and turns to be had throughout. It's a satisfactory ending too.
