Solid hand carved oak beam mantle and only the best air dried oak is used to create all of our goods - so no cheap and nasty man-made mdf materials! This means that what you get is beautifully crafted furniture, made from the very best selection of solid oak, with all of those natural characters only nature can provide. Natural features such as twists, cracks (shakes), knots and waney edges are a common feature and not a defect of this product. The mantle will be finished off with a Rugger Brown wax which can be seen in the images. The last image is to display the wax only. As shown in the images, the wax finish can be lighter or darker than displayed in the images due to the natural colour of the oak. Some are naturally light, others dark. All beams are sealed with premium waxes or matt polish for a lustrious protective finish. Guidance: Oak is a natural product each piece may be different in appearance and marginally in colour. They almost certainly will contain surface cracks, knots, pinholes and slightly uneven edges. This adds to the natural beauty and character of Oak. Following sanding and shaping sizes may not be minus 8mm. Occasionally the oak can develop marginal movement, such as slight splits and cracks as it acclimatizes to your properties temperature. It is recommended that you keep your oak shelf/mantel in your home to acclimatize before fitting, furthermore if going above a stove it is helpful to increase the temperature gradually to acclimatize the oak further. All of the above statements will not be treated as defects. If being placed above a stove, multi fuel log burner please seek advice from stove manufacturer or stove fitter for correct placement to adhere to the safe distances for combustible materials.

Really impressed with the quality of the product. Really heavy solid wood. Plenty of colours to choose from. The product was dispatched quickly and I received it in relative good condition. Because the weight of the beam it had a few marks on one of its sides as it can be seen in the close-up picture. This is because the wax finish and because there wasn't sufficient bubble wrap padding at the ends. No big issue, but I would recommend the seller to pad the ends better for shipping.Also the beam is pre drilled and you receive the metal studs that will hold it in place.We had a little bit of issue when deciding where to drill the wall and a cheap paper/cardboard template would have been handy. I would recommend the seller to take this bit of information into consideration for the future.But without a template provided we had to make one and mark the exact centre of each stud and then mark the wall and then make sure we drill the holes with great precision.If everything done properly the beam slides into its place with no effort.
