Bedford Clock Collection Grand 31" Antique Mahogany Cherry Oak Chiming Wall Clock with Roman Numerals
R**R
Nice clock but needs some improvements and the color is not what’s in the pic.
I bought this clock from another vendor, but felt a review would be helpful to potential buyers. It is a nice, large walk clock and I like the look, but I have some criticisms that may or may not affect another person’s intention to buy.1. It is not dark like the pic. It is decidedly very red. Not a problem for me, but you should be aware. I had seen another reviewer stating the same thing, so it wasn’t a surprise when I got it. I’ve attached a pic so you can see for yourself.2. The hanger is inset about 1” from the wall, so you need a long, well-mounted screw or hook to make sure it’s secure, as it weighs over 15lbs. I’m going to look at modifying this later as I think it’s not very well thought out.3. The chime sounds terrible. It is probably the most 1982 Casio-sounding chime I’ve ever heard. I removed the chime batteries immediately after hearing it. Bedford, you can do better. I may replace the entire movement if I want the chime. Still on the fence about that one. It’s in my bedroom, so a chime is not a necessity.4. It really needs a front access door. Changing the batteries or changing the time requires you to take it off the wall, and with the inset hanger and weight of the clock, it’s just a pain. I can’t imagine someone in their sixties dealing with that. Again, not well thought out.I think you’re paying for the fact that it’s wood for the +/-$160. There’s some plywood, what appears to be paulownia and maybe some OSB given the weight. Personally I think it’s worth half the price given its shortcomings, but seeing the price of other similar clocks, I guess it’s par for the course. If you love the look and are willing to work with the flaws, it’s a nice clock.
