7 months on, and an oustanding switch at a great price!
I normally have reservations when a glowing review is posted within days of receiving a product, I suspect that often the user hasn't had chance to properly evaluate the product. Which is why I'm posting this now, ....after it's been through the mill!I bought this on the 1st November 2010, as part of an upgrade of a 10/100 network to Gigabit (1000). After unpacking, I simply plugged it in, connected the LAN cables and that was it. No fuss, no noise, no problems. Note: Important to use at least Cat 5e cables to ensure full speed potential, I use a mix of Cat 5e and Cat 6 - The Cat(egory) rating is marked on the cable sheathing.Speed throughput improvement was very noticeable, which is what I would have expected anyway. I particularly like the built in power supply, no adapter/transformer to add to the already over-stocked collection. Just needs a standard 'kettle' power lead, which comes with it, as well as extension plates if you want to mount it in a rack. It's been working happily and reliably ever since, totally silent, doesn't get over hot either, (but then I do keep it in a well ventilated area, and I suggest you do as well). Mine has weathered countless power cuts, switching on and off in rapid succession. It just works!Up to buying this TP-Link switch, I was always a Netgear man, and always bought the metal version, never plastic. This TP-Link 8 port switch is of course also metal and just feels good quality; but at half the price!. Needless to say, after this I'm trying to think of a reason why I would ever buy a Netgear switch again....?

Reliable, efficient, built to last.
A great switch with a built in power supply. Very efficient, produces no noticeable heat, no noise, just plug it in and everything works!A bit bigger than most desktop switches as its 1U height (and comes with rackmount ears, should you need them). I do prefer the activity LED's being separate from the RJ45 sockets though as it's easier to see them. Has a 240v IEC mains socket on the rear, so no external power supply needed. This is a TP-Link 'Professional Line' product, so comes with a lifetime warranty!

Gigabit switch - quiet, cool, no fuss, good value !
First TP network product I've used - previously all NetGear. Very straightforward to set up. Having the ports in front rather than at back (as in most consumer switches) is actually very useful to me - it means patch panel cables don't have to be fed behind a board and are easier to move / see. Has been stable for several months , never needed a reboot or got hot. As it should be !

TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Switch in 1U Rack-Mountable Steel Case
I've been using this item for a few weeks now and so far there is nothing to report. It sits there quietly doing its job. I'd go so far as to say you wouldn't know it was there. This item replaced a much cheaper 8 port switch from the same company which gave up the ghost after about 18 months. The new one is more than twice the size and much better built with the advantage of an internal power supply. It will also fit a 19 inch rack and comes with the necessary brackets. So far then I would recommend this item. I am confident it will last a lot longer than the old one.

Solid, quality kit
Amazing high quality build for such a low priced piece of kit.Having given up on wi-fi, (overcrowded with neighbouring networks) we decided to go wired for all the AV equipment, and bought this to manage the traffic. Superb job. Streaming 5 movies over 5 devices no more pausing or glitches ... remaining wi-fi has improved as well. All in all, a few (easily hidden) flat ethernet cables, and this box, saved £100's on wireless repeaters.

So far so good
I bought this device over a month ago, arrived well-packed.It works as advertized: no set-up, just plug in the router and any other machine and it all just works.Got transfer speeds between 2 computers of 50 Megabyte/second, though most likely limited by the internal bus speed of the other computer than by the switch. It also doesnt get hot at all while using 5 of the 8 ports, we'll see how that goes in a small lan party :)

Fabulous
I've had this switch running continuously for 2 months now (connected to TP Link TL-ER5120 Gigabit Load Balance Broadband Router ) and it's performed every bit as well as I could have wished. It really is just plug in a go. It doesn't seem to mind about mis-matched cables and I'm achieving PC to PC transfer speeds of around 92MB/s. The unit is very well constructed in a metal case and doesn't seem to become even slightly warm to the touch, despite the built in transformer. For the price it is a fabulous piece of kit :)

Excellent value for the price
I have two of these on my home network - one running the downstairs ethernet, the other upstairs.Considering these are turned on 24/7, they are not even running slightly warm, and between them, they are running 12 separate connections. This unit is plug and play - plug it into the mains, plug in your cat5e cables, and away you go.If you are still hesitant on buying this, remember this ... it is whisper quiet, totally silent.

Much improved internet.
Great way to lessen the draw on your wi-fi system and improve your internet performance.

Solid device for the cost. No problems at all.
Cheap and works great. Got exactly what I was looking for. I've been running a few of these for 3-4 years now and never had one fail.
