War: First Ever English Translation (Alma Classics): First Ever English Translation of an Unpublished Work by Louis-Ferdinand Céline
O**.
Harrowing, sickening, eye-opening.
Though this text was unfinished, it is a powerfully disturbing account of Celiné's experiences in World War One with perhaps his best opening page ever. I will leave you cower in fear of the first 4 sentences.Interested readers may be put off by his larger books, so this is good if you want an introduction. The translation by Berg is also wonderful, well crafted and thought.Celiné has sent a scream from the grave, that if it had been published at the time may have led to a greater understanding of why one of the most important yet controversial writers of the twentieth century was such a damaged individual.
