No brainer. Open lid. Add water (from any source, but I had a jug of distilled that I used for a previous sponge-type humidifier). Put into your humidor.It took a few days to get to a steady humidity rating. I'm sure my gauge is not accurate, the feel and taste of the cigar is the proof I needed to tell me that these are working. Once the humidity reading was stable I enjoyed a good smoke. The crystals have just started to shrink a little, so it's just a matter of topping the water up to the easy to see line.I'm not sure how long they will last, but the price and the ease of use makes this a great purchase.
