A Birdie Companion
I have bought three of these now - one for me in my cottage, and the other two for my mother in her two flats. My mother loves the birds, and rushes in on the hour to hear which it is to be this time. When we got one for her when she was staying in London, my sister ignored the 5.30am instruction for putting in the batteries, so the birds were all wrong. It forced my mother to learn the birds properly, since they were not what was on the dial, which she greatly enjoys. For my part, the 6 o'clock screech owl gets me up when I am feeling virtous, or it's the 7 o'clock wren. Anyone familiar with bird clocks from the Black Forest will feel it perverse for the 2 o'clock cuckoo to sing three cuckoos, but I have got used to that. The 4 o'clock woodpecker is not birdlike at all.I've had mine over a year, and it's kept reasonable time, losing about 30 seconds in a couple of months. I try to time the birds with the pips on the radio, and they either come just before or eventually drift until after them.I got the idea originally from a shameless bit of BBC product placement on the documentary programme 'Imagine - Finding Cinderella' made at the end of 2016 about the young composer Alma Deutscher. Her family had one of these up on the wall of her music room in Dorking when she was performing an improvisation. She has since moved to Vienna, but I don't know if she has one there.

Couldn't get one that worked, twice! UPDATE: ALL GOOD NOW, see vid.
The media could not be loaded. Despite following the instructions on several occasions over the past few days (set it to 05.50 am, then insert the batteries and slowly wind to the current time, check the birdsong is set to 'on' and wait), silent hours turned to days..the 1st clock just pinged a metallic spring sound on the hours, it became clear it had no intention of serenading Mum or I with birdsong whatsoever. (I got it as an early Christmas present for Mum). The company were hot on the heels and sent a replacement; but when the 2nd one arrived, the screw in the back to access the battery compartment for the clock just turned and turned ad infinitum and making it impossible to access the battery compartment without breaking it open. Again, this was very frustrating. I have now given this 4 stars as the company have addressed the issue and been very good at resolving the issue quickly. Some of the 'songs' are quite good, especially the blackbird and the nightingale, and they 'sing' twice which is good. You can press a little button on the back to hear the songs manually, (some songs on the 1st clock sent to me were too overwhelming for the internal speaker and they came out tinny and slightly distorted, which was a shame, it seems I was unlucky here), but the replacement clock I finally received the sound was much softer and better, except perhaps for the bluetit. And it is this one in the accompanying video. (Any loud clock ticking you can hear is an unrelated clock of mine, this bird clock is very quiet, any image blur is just my camera. The video and sound is only as good as the media it was filmed on. It actually sounds BETTER and quite realistic when you are also in another room). I was initially very disappointed with my experiences with this clock, I really wanted to get a working one!, but the company came up trumps in the end and sorted the issue well. I would recommend this clock, but just remember that you have it, the sounds are good, and don't do what I did and stupidly go looking for a real tawny owl at midday!

The Zeon Birdsong Clock is a welcome sound in any home.
I have had a few Zeon Tech Birdsong Clocks over the past decade and I have found them to be a lovely presence in any home. They have worked perfectly for me and do exactly what it says on the instructions. When they stop working it is always the birdsong section that causes the problem i.e. the compartment where the two batteries are inserted becomes faulty usually one of the two springs that keeps both batteries connected snaps off and are not repairable. My previous clock is still keeping perfect time without the birdsong.

The sounds don’t match the right bird
The clock is lovely, it looks nice and sounds nice. However the sound is an hour wrong so it isn’t the right songs for the right bird. It’s also a bit difficult to actually read what the time is. But it is a nice clock. Some of the sounds are very short too. And not very loud.

A replacement after about 10 years plus
The old one was still working but it was losing time, despite new batteries, so it had to go, although the bird sounds were still sounding. This one is larger than the other one and I think I like it better. My other half was doing the same as last time, stuck the batteries in without reading the instruction. Slight change, last one you started off at 11.55, then stuck the batteries in to get the right bird songs at the right time, then wound to the correct time. This one starts at 5.55, which I suspect is due to people winding back before and cocking things up.Anyway, it is a delightful clock, which makes lovely noises, and makes the neighbours jump if it sounds when they are stood at the side of it. I think it is louder as well, which is really good.Long may it sing.
