Mulder begins...
Written in a young adult style, this is none the less an engaging read for all ages. The only concessions to the YA market are the overly innocent (and frankly unbelievable given the age of the characters) romantic interludes. The character of Mulder is very well realised, I only occasionally struggled to reconcile the 18 year old seen here with the character from the show. The story leans more toward the lite supernatural episodes of 'The X-Files', most strongly resembling 'Grotesque' or 'Paper Hearts', which fans of the show will tell you is a good thing. There are plenty of nods for fans and the possibility of further novels in this series is an enticing one.My only complaint is that a supporting character shares her first name with another character from Mulder's last that appears in the show. I found this confusing at first, as I naturally assumed they were the same character. It becomes clear that this is not the case though and choosing a different name would have prevented an unnecessary disconnect, it's an odd misstep given the level of research that has clearly gone into the rest of the book.

Good audiobook, with enough to interest adults and fans
Good audiobook, well read with an interesting set of characters. Includes some earlier visibility of key characters from the TV series.

Five Stars
Charming, in character, and filled with all the things that didn't quite make it into the show proper.
