Really Great Pruners
For what it is worth, I am a man with medium sized hands with more or less shorter stubby fingers and these shears have really worked well for me. I have owned them for about 3 years now and they are still working fine. I will also say I sometimes use them on branches that are slightly larger than what they were intended for and they have held up fine while also maintaining sharpness for all types of pruning cuts. I have about 20 fruit trees (apple, pear, & peach) that I prune yearly and some other 30 -50 other deciduous trees that I will also touch up yearly with these shears. I am on Amazon now because I am in the middle of pruning and I am going to buy another pair of these same shears as a back up in case my primary pair happens to break or become unusable . Let me also add that I got these ratcheting shears at my wife's insistence after I developed a pretty serious case of tendonitis during pruning season 4 years ago and these Blue Ape ratcheting pruners have really worked well for me. I am currently through about half of this season's pruning and my arm feels fine with no sign of a recurrence of the tendonitis, arm, or hand pain. Keep in mind I am 70 years of age. BTW I am left handed and I find these pruners are comfortable to use and really work well for me.

Very happy with the quality of this pruner
Very happy with the quality of this pruner. I'm sold on Ratchet cutters as the stress is minimal on my hands. We cut quite a few dead trees every year for our firewood (at least 6 or 7 cords) and I use a pruners a lot to trim away limbs and such from the stove size wood. I am thinking about purchasing one for my sister-in-law as she likes them too! This one was priced very well and it feels like it is made well too. My only concerns are it's a little heavy and big (I can definitely feel it in my pocket) and just a bit big for my hand but not bad enough that I won't use it, I'm keeping it and will continue to put it through the test of time.

If your hands are weak you'll LOVE these
I was really dreading the time to cut lantana approaching. My hands aren't very strong and they're sore for days after cutting lantana. I had been to a home and garden show where they were demonstrating ratcheting shears. What?!!! I'd never heard of such. I tried them and I was stunned. But I didn't buy them there. If I can get it at Amazon, then that's where I buy. So I ordered these and they did not disappoint! They probably cut the time n half that I had to spend cutting, plus, it was fairly effortless. Well worth every cent!

Do a great job.
These are very sturdy and do a great job of cutting branches up to 3/4". My first project was clearing out a large cedar branch that broke off during an ice storm. It cut through a lot of the side branches with no difficulty. I am a woman with large hands and the spread between the finger grip and thumb grip is a little too wide, but I am getting use to it. I would like the black grip to be a little more rough and less slippery. These would work great for most men's hands.

Too big for my hand to use this comfortably
This was a replacement for another ratchet pruner, one that failed after many years of service. This is a similar design, but handle is quite a bit larger than my size large hand making it difficult to use. It it way bigger than my wife's hand is nearly unusable by her.The product seems otherwise good.If you're thinking about this, it might be best if your glove size/finger length is "extra large."

the ratchet works well
These are for a home gardener. The lock is plastic, the blade is a cross between and anvil and a bypass. They are not as maneuverable as regular bypass pruningers. They do make nice clean cuts. They did take some pressure off my hand. I am a commercial fruit tree arborist. my hands are not as young as they used to be. These will get me through the rest of the season

Sharp & great ratcheting
These work great & can take down almost an inch in diameter. Very sharp. Lost the oiler part right away. They are a bit picky about locking so it takes a bit extra time for me. I have weak hands & these really help a lot.

Didn't ratchet!
Right out of the package, on the ratchet setting never ratcheted. It worked like the shear setting. Extremely light weight, so even if it had ratcheted I can't believe it would have lasted very long. Being so light weight I do not think it would have had the power to cut the thickness of the branch as advertised. Save your money!!!
