Just a luxury?
This is one of those tools that you probably think of as a bit of an indulgence; I know I did. After all I've already got cordless drills that double up as power screw drivers, but I bought it anyway using it's smaller size as some kind of justification. If, like me, you've never used an impact driver before then once you've used one you'll quickly realise just how much better this is than a battery drill driver for winding screws in and out. It'll do them all day long, no fuss, just 160nm of torque to get the job done. It really is incredible, I don't know how else to put it!This one also comes with a little LED light - seemed a bit gimiky to be, but again having used it I wouldn't want an impact driver without one. There are cheaper brands around, possibly just as good, but having bought a Makita cordless drill with batteries and charger, this was the obvious choice for me as the batteries are usuable across the range of tools.

A revelation
I've always simply used my cordless drill (or manual brute force) to drive screws but a friend recommended that I try an impact driver for a project I was working on. It's a revelation - so much more effective than a drill and seemingly limitless ability to keep driving screws no matter the resistance. In fact, I've found that the limiting factor has been the quality of the driver bits I had - it shears those before it stops driving if I'm not careful. To be clear though, this is my fault for using standard driver bits - it really needs bits specifically designed for impact drivers if the going gets tough.Overall, a very welcome addition to the tool cabinet.

More 'oomph' yet with subtle application.
I bought this to compliment the twin-pack of Makita drill drivers I already had. I knew that this could give more 'oomph' but what I also discovered was that this could be delivered very precisely too. It's been very useful for torquing up fastenings 'just so' and the clutch delivers a fine balance between keeping hold to deliver impressive torque but will then release to prevent stripping.Once you have a drill/driver, this is the second tool you should get! Compatible with the usual Makita 18v Li-Ion battery series. The chuck takes standard-sized hex shanks, but needs them to have the little cutaway at the drill end to allow the bit retention device to work - there is a collar on the chuck which slides forward to "open" the chuck for bit replacement. Without the cutaway, the bit can fall out.

Good tool
Amazing great tool at a good price does what it is supposed to do drives screws, bolts, and nuts with ease should have bought one sooner. You will need a good set of driver bits to go with this impact driver because it rips cheap ones to bits.

... with all of my Makita 18v tools - I love this piece of kit
Along with all of my Makita 18v tools - I love this piece of kit. I'm a heavy DIYer (Just coming to the end of a full renovation project) and these things run forever and forever. And, even if they do run out, the charge is rapid enough that a brew is normally what you need. Quality piece of kit and I'd buy another one tomorrow. My only "complaint" is that it's quite heavy - I guess that comes with quality but it can be a bit of handful when you're being a contortionist under a floor or something. I'd not want to drop it from a height, either!

Good product, badly labelled
First time ever writing a review but I could not let this pass. The product I received is advertised as "new" but comes in anonymous brown packaging (without padding or protection) and _not_ in the original Makita packaging. In this brown box I got the impact driver & its manual. The impact driver was dusty and the user manual looked creased. See photos. To me this is clearly a refurbished or second hand part. Nowhere on the webpage does it specify that this is a bulk item so I won't risk using it (I have no warranty card from Makita as you'd expect) so I am returning this item and buying elsewhere. Avoid this seller unless you are happy to take the risk.

tres bon produit
