BirkenstockMen's Classic Madrid Birko-Flor Sandal

After much deliberation, I finally decided to buy myself a pair of Birkenstock Madrids. I looked at numerous websites to try to determine what size I would need (I have read on a few sites, Amazon included, that you should choose a size smaller in Birkenstocks than you usually take in other shoes). I am of small build (size 8-10 in clothes) and have always been told that I have quite narrow/delicate feet, and I take a size 6 (39) in most shoes. This considered, I was unsure what size Birkenstock would be best for me, so I ordered a size 38 and size 39, both in normal width (M). When they arrived, the width of both shoes was perfect, but the size 38 was too small in length. Birkenstock recommend that there should be a gap of a few millimetres at the toe end, to allow your feet to move freely, and for me the 38 didn't allow for this - my toes were pushed right up against the edge of the shoe. The size 39 however, was a perfect fit in all respects, and therefore, I find Birkenstock's sizes to be accurate. After about a week of wearing my new Birkenstocks around the house, I am still pleased with the comfort, and this improves with every wear.So in summary, I would highly recommend buying your usual shoe size in Birkenstocks. After all, they are the experts and must size them that way for a reason. As I said earlier, the shoes are designed to allow your foot to move freely, almost as if you are not wearing shoes at all. From my point of view, having a shoe that does its job in supporting your feet correctly and comfortably is much more important than buying a smaller/narrower size just to adhere to fashion.

I have been buying these type of sandals for years from Next and BHS, but have been unable to get any this year. I find them ideal for hot Countries because the footbeds are so cool when you put them on and stay cool too. I have not in the past bought Birkenstock clogs because of the expense, I usually pay between £12-£15, but had to get a pair for my holiday to Cuba recently and these were the only ones I could get. I wasnt sure which size N or M, but chose the normal width. When I first tried them on they felt too big, but on reading the leaflet that came with them and it saying your feet should fit inside the flatbed, which they did, I adjusted the strap and they fit perfectly. I wore them in Cuba and felt they were as good as the ones I have bought from Next and BHS if not better as they have a thicker sole so more comfortable and better quality which you would expect for the price. I shall definitely buy more of these sandals, but only if on sale, I paid £24.99p for these!!

I'd heard lots of good things about Birkenstock sandals but couldn't understand why they were so expensive with other summer sandals. I now know why - they're not your average sandal! Made to the highest quality, they really can last a lifetime as the footbed and sole can be replaced. These came in the Birkenstock box and I was delighted at the colour (Toffee) of the leather. Being new, they do take a while to soften (both the leather and the footbed) and mould to your feet so it is recommended to wear them in around the house until they're comfy before venturing outside. Once this is done, they're a perfect fit, light on the foot and supports perfectly the arch of your foot and allows room for toes to fully lie straight. Almost like walking barefoot with support, they really are that comfortable. I'd write more but I'm off to buy some other styles and colours!

This is the first year in which I have tried Birkenstocks - having been tempted by an article in the Times Magazine - thought for once I could have something fashionable that was also good for my feet! Initially ordered in Navy Leather size 40 Narrow fit as I take U.K. size 7 - 7.5 (or U.S.A. size 9 - 9.5) and I have long and very narrow feet i.e. AA or N ! Did a lot of research regarding the sizing and was sure I needed a Narrow width but the length was a bit more problematic. They DO look big and it is hard to believe that you need so much space! However, looking on the Birkenstock official site, it is clear that the foot should actually fit within the footbed - both at the heel and toe ends and also from side to side. Obviously I needed Narrow - did I really need 40 though? At this point decided to send for this white version in both 39N and 40N to satisfy myself that I couldn't take a smaller size. Excellent and speedy delivery and 2 pairs of Arizona in White to compare! Was tempted to keep the 39 on the basis that they looked a lot more dainty BUT phoned Birkenstock who talked me through trying on, and it became apparent that as I had virtually no extra space in the length in the size 39 - indeed my foot (tried on the right as this is my bigger foot) - filled the whole of the footbed - and the foot should not overlap the rim and should have at least 2.5mm at the front and back to allow for movement when walking - the 39 was too short! So decision made! I will need to punch an extra hole when the leather has broken in as I am on the tightest fitting but I am sure that they will be great when properly moulded to my feet and will then give them 5 stars. I also do prefer the real leather uppers and think they are worth the extra cost - although bought at an excellent price from Amazon anyway. So now own 2 pairs - White and Navy! Would also like to applaud the excellent free return service - took back to a dropoff point for Collection - 2 days later back at Amazon and an email to confirm the refund would be made.

My Madrids finally arrived this afternoon and I must say that they are by far the most comfy Birkenstocks I have had. They fit like a glove and look simply stunning on. I don't think the usual week of panning in will be necessary for these sandals. I thoroughly recommend to anyone to buy a pair. They are so summery and I cannot wait to wear them when the weather warms up! They are exactly what I wanted - they are smart and casual at the same time - can be dressed up or down and are going to be one of my 'go to' pairs this summer. They will be ideal to take on holiday too because they are so versatile and also lightweight. Top marks for this design, I cannot rate highly enough!!!!

Shoes fit like 11 and I wear 9.5 so I ordered a size 10. Asked for a refund since I spent nearly $75 and their response was to give me a gift card. Amazon totally steals from people.

Bought these for my niece for her birthday per her wish list. She told me they are the best she has had which is high praise indeed coming from her!

Delicate and beautiful, it is narrower than other birkenstock models, so be aware when chosing your size.

Es mag ja viele Nachahmer geben, aber: Birkenstock bleibt Birkenstock, die Qualität ist hervorragend, die Passform bestens. Die Sandalen tragen sich durch die Velourledersohle sehr angenehm. Reinschlüpfen und sich wohl fühlen - so soll es sein.
