Just got the book today, so I haven't read it, but holy crap...I thought his other books -- The Old School Back Training Bible and Forgotten Secrets of the Culver City... -- were bad (as far as layout and editing). This is BY FAR worse. There's NO title or author or anything printed on the spine of the book. There's NO table of contents. NO glossary of any kind. It literally just starts out of nowhere with page 1, and is like reading 100+ pages of a single paragraph (switching between highlighted and non-highlighted portions). Although there is some good info I've seen from skimming through it, and I'm sure this guy prints these books out of his basement or something so I don't expect a lot, come on. There has to at least be a table of contents or chapters or SOMETHING. There are 5th graders that could put together a better book. While I highly recommend his other two books I mentioned -- as long as you can deal with the editing -- I gotta say pass on this one. Not worth $12 unless you really just want to get it for a few pieces of arbitrary info that might not be in his other books.

a good read
I've read a lot about old time strongmen but learned a few things that I hadn't read before. It's a good condensation without having to read all through the Sandow and other sites. ChristianIron has done the preliminary research for me. I can do additional internet searches to learn more about particular items from the book that interest me.

Not what it says.
Hmmm? What can I say about this book? DO NOT buy it!It's simply junk. The design stinks. The best photos are on the cover. The content just has to be the worst writings on strength I've EVER had the misfortune to have bought & read. I feel like a sucker for buying it.I write this little review to help others who seek real knowledge aboutbodybuilding history to go elsewhere. This book is a real stinker! If the name Dave Yarnell is on the cover it means you've been had. What a piece of trash. This guy is a fraud and a full of bull. DO NOT BUY!

If you enjoy old time weightlifting you may like this
This book was bought for my dad who is in his 70's and who has followed the old time weightlifters most of his life. Looking at the cover I thought it would be like a scrapbook. Although it's not he thoughly enjoys it because it has bits of history/trivia about the oldtimers. Be sure to take advantage of looking inside so your not disappointed like some of the reviewers were. What you see there is what you get throughout the book.

Interesting training techniques of strong men in the pre-steroid era
I found this book very interesting. Many of the pictures in the book are from the "Eugen Sandow And The Golden Age Of Ironmen" website: [...]The author is a former champion powerlifter so he is capable of providing valuable insights. It is an easy and enjoyable read and it may motivate you to exercise.

A poor effort
Looking for some inspiration from the old time strongmen, what I got was a hotch potch of seemingly random snippets put together poorly.
