Handy - Dandy
Seeing how I heard they stopped making these, which explains the price somewhat, I was surprised to see them for sale so I got some. These are as handy as can be, how often do you have a patch to scratch a match on once they become separated from the box or pack, irritating isn't it...?Well these little gems solved that problem and work perfectly on a rock or a finger nail or even a zipper just like Fonzy would do (hahaha) if he could buy them. They are a touch pricey and I see they have become more expensive since my purchase but if you want them then they have you, so I only picked up a few of them but they are really handy. In fairness I heard the reason for these not being available in stores was because they now made it illegal to manufacture them some while ago for safety reasons, it is too easy to have them scratched by themselves if rubbed the wrong way or by mistake and I guess it's logical but then again they also tell us what light bulbs not to use also - hah, yeah right. I still buy incandescent light bulbs also, risky business no doubt. I only make this type of purchase while in disguise or under cover of darkness of course. They are handy but keep away from children.

Decent matches, bring the back!
After having given up on the "green" matches that do not light anywhere, I got these. They truly will light anywhere. Unfortunately, they are no longer made so the ones I have are much more valuable. I understand they quit making the standard matches because they were used to cook meth. Cannot get sudafed and decent matches because of the meth heads!!!! What is the world coming to?

Not real thrilled
I thought these would work like the old matches I always used growing up. These light very easily on the box. the light with some challenge on the cast iron surface of the wood stove. But sometimes the white end just breaks off. And forget about striking them with your fingernail like i had done for years and years. Great matches for the price. Far better than lots out there if you are like me and uses matches every day to start the wood stove. But i don't understand why companies just don't bring back the good old fashioned truly strike anywhere matches.

Penley Strike Anywhere
Penley Strike Anywhere Matches vs Diamond's Strike Anywhere. Ever so slightly shorter than the D brand, but they have a larger red tip and a larger white dot...thus a slightly larger burst of flame. Not sure if the difference is all that noticeable to the novice match enthusiast, but i guess if you were lost out in the wilderness and only had one match left, it might be a plus. They strike fine on any long smooth surface, or a leather boot sole and any rough surface... or the side of the box. Just like the Diamond's. It's a good match.

Haven't had a match like this in a long time
Haven't had a match like this in a long time! I found these after finally getting fed-up having to use 3 Green Diamond matches each time I make a fire in our wood stove. These are just like the red w/ white tips were before they disappeared, with the white tip varying in size, but the red seams more purple to me and flares up more than I remember, making them even better! They are excellently packaged for shipping, by hand, and the guy even has the note in the receipt about lighting them. I strike them on a smooth part of the steal diamond plate that the stove is on, and each time the strangest thing happens, they instantly light and I only have to use one. This really does make a difference when wood is your only heat, and you make a couple of fires a day. Absolutely worth the price! Thank you.

Hit and miss
I was born in 1986. Despite this, I can remember rotary phones, party lines, and the now legendary Ohio Blue Tip Matches. How, you ask? My grandparents grew up in the depression and never spent a penny they didn't have to. Antiquated telephone technology was apparently cheaper, hence why they held on to it so long. With regards to the matches, when the Ohio match company went under in 87, grandma bought as many boxes of the things as she could find. She knew how valuable they were and wanted to use them for as long as possible. Her supply lasted until the mid 90's, which is how I got my hands on them. Had I known how rare and precious they were, I wouldn't have wasted so many, but alas. Now to the relevant part of the review. These Penleys, whatever they might be, are not ohio blue tips. Sometimes you can get one to strike on a piece of brick or similar, but sometimes you can't. I would say they are 'strike anywhere' about 1 time in 3. Not terrible, to be sure, but if you are buying them primarily hoping to use them anywhere you may be disappointed. They are much better than the garbage Diamond matches, but not as good as UCO. I bought 12 boxes of these Penley matches before I knew that there were better options out there. I certainly won't throw them out, as with the box they're a good match. However, I wish I had done some research before I bought them.

Great Strike Matches
I ordered 2 boxes of these matches and now after using them for a week I wish I would have bought more, which I will soon just to make sure I have at least 10 boxes on hand. I still have 2 boxes of Ohio Blue tip strike anywhere and these matches are at least 80% as good and my Ohio Blue tip boxes are 45 years old, I have used them very sparingly now I can count on Penley Matches to take there place. They are the best I have found sense the Ohio Blue Tip went out of business. Try them you will not be disappointed I know this for sure, They burn slow and I lite my Cigars outside every semi rough surface each day and the wind is not really a problem using commend sense of course. The shipping was so fast I got them before the match holder I bout got here. Penley you have a fan for life. Thank you for being a company that really gives you what they say their product really is.

Good although...
This was a nice package of 250 matches(Yes, I counted). I never tried it on anywhere else other than the strike pad, but it was good at striking. After multiple uses, about one fourth of the pack left, both strike pads started to wear off. It's my fault since it is used for to "strike anywhere". I would recommend when you need a match or matches the most when you need them,
