this is a great accessory for my large Green Egg, allows for indirect area to move food too. Was thanking about having something fabricated when I came across this. Can start up with less charcoal, Since the Egg shuts down so efficiently , leaving unused charcoal for reuse, overall may not be big savings, but even with left over charcoal, you have to add charcoal to get it hot- so still more efficient on a per burn basis. Would give it 5 stars, but would like the base to better fit the big green egg, it's a little larger than the original egg, raising the base plate to just at the bottom of the vent holes causing them to possibly clog , but does not affect the cook, the vent holes are open on the non charcoal side, even if you use the blocking plate. Would like to have it come with a quarter circle plate, combined would allow for a 1/4 burn area (maybe to small) but used alone it would give you a 1/4 indirect area, that I think would be perfect. (you can still do a 3/4 fire, just not block the 1/4 grate). Not for a long slow cook, but easily get 1/2 the grate hot for searing a great steak. - definitely recommend!

Bought this 1 1/2 years ago, does just what it is supposed to do. It gives me great 2 zone cooking temps with no hassle. I have grill about 350 and cook steaks on the cool side slow to break down all of the tough and fatty stuff then put it on the hot side to sear of the last 5-6 minutes. Works great on veggies also to cook slow.
