This gardening trowel gets the job done. I can easily dig down into the ground to plant my flowers and other plants. Furthermore the weeding design of the blade is a nice touch! It feels sturdy and well-crafted. I recommend this!

I had long ago given up on buying new garden tools, since the quality of newly produced items is generally so much worse than the 100 year old items you find wedged in the back corner of a crumbling garage at an estate sale (that is usually where I have the best luck finding good gardening tools). Generations ago, tools were made to last for generations, but now tools are made to be used twice (if you are lucky) and then repurchased. That is how we kill the planet and I won't do it. Rant over: I am pleased to report that this SUMIO gardening trowel is the very rare tool that is both brand new and of excellent quality. My hope for the future is bolstered by the fact that someone out there is producing things that are clearly meant to last for years and years and years.So, tons of points for quality. I also love that this trowel is pretty multi-purpose. Gardening shouldn't be a hassle, so it is great to be able to transition from digging to cutting without need of switching tools. I like to use only one tool while gardening, and this is - and promises to be for many years - my "go to".

We have heavy clay soil, which becomes hard to dig in when it dries. The Sumio Weeding Trowel works very well for this type of soil since it has one sharpish edge and one serrated edge, which makes it easier to dig small holes. I need to exert more force with the trowel in areas where the soil is dry and highly compacted, even after years of adding organic material. In contrast, in areas where the soil is less compacted, I do not need to apply as much force as I did with my old trowel.The beech wood handle is very helpful when you need force from the top since it does not hurt the palm of the hand too much. With the Sumio Weeding Trowel, it will be easier to create small holes for small plants and bulbs vs. needing to use a big shovel because the soil is too hard and other trowels don’t work. This is a great addition to my gardening tools.

I have already used this trowel extensively this season and I am very pleased with it. It is very sturdy and the handle is large enough to be quite comfortable and gives me plenty of leverage for digging up weeds. I am not sure if the serrated edge makes digging up weeds more efficient or not. It is difficult to quantify. However it is an excellent tool and I am happy with it.
