Same Same But Different
Being a big fan of this series I was very excited when my copy of Season 3 arrived and for the whole part was not dissapointed once I had watched it. It follows a similar route that the first two had taken but this time had added a bit of company for the Idiot Abroad.Warrick I must say is a stroke of genius by Ricky, the two guys clash in so many ways it really had me in utter stiches at times as well as breathing a little bit of freshness to the series. My problem with the series 3 is that for me it lacked Stephens edge, the whole of series 3 only added in to 3 episodes when if you were to consider the journey they take could have easily been expanded by another 3 episodes. Instead the resulting episodes felt rushed when it came in to editing, you can almost feel Ricky getting too excited and causing all the post production guys to rush the result so he can release the show. I take it as Stephen is required as he would have added a bit more class to the production and calmed Ricky down when Ricky gets all over excited. The series just lacks that little bit extra thought. In the end if you liked the first 2 seasons you will like the 3rd as well, there were some proper pieces of comedic genius in there.

Funny
I laughed the most this Season. That being said there are several things bugging me.1.) 3 episodes! THREE! Watched that in one evening, great. Way too few.2.) It's just so random. There is no development. Where are fights, discussions, happy things. There is just no character development. Yeah sure it's real tv bla bla bla. Well you can still make a good show.3.) Those two are pure gold, each season I am asking for more (Karl alone in the other two had the same issues). It's too little supervised. If you would just 'script' it a little bit it could be worlds better. And I am not saying the things they say need scripting, just the flow and events they are doing, it just feels so randomly put together. I dunno, hard to describe. Just saying tons of potential goes down the drain here.

Petty
First two series were quite simply an amusing rambling tale of an underdog with various degrees of conflict when presented with the world at large, depending how much his Highness Gervais poked him with a stick. In this series however, the petty, cowardly, adolescent bullying tactic & personality flaws are bubbling very near Pilkington's surface. He is faced with a 'stranger' in the form of Warwick. More often than not in these 'events' of series 3, he isn't so much humourous, as mildly offensive & almost perpetually morose. His observations from the past now thinly veil his sarcastic unpleasant streak & his mild-mannered oafishness is giving way to someone with a distinct disregard for others. He seems to lack empathy. Totally. For anything. As the short series progressed some moments of funny behaviour did occur, mercifully. It would perhaps seem that the sequences have been edited down considerably, as i suspect Pilkington was even less palatable during other shots we don't see. Watching an angry, deluded idiot mock & demean Warwick suggests he forgot to cover his short temper & extremely limited world-view whilst filming this series. However, the sequences with them dressed as pandas was strangely compelling and amusing.I will be seeking out more of Warwick, who is a more rounded, interesting human. I will no longer be interested in the Pilkington 'character'. As clearly, he has none.

Be careful if you plan on watching this using an Xbox Series X.
It does not play on my Xbox Series X, causes it to turn itself off, but plays on my Xbox One X?? I don't understand why, don't know if it's a universal problem, but thought I should let people know. I'm sure the show is great and will be 5 stars, but be wary if you plan on watching using a Series X.

Had low expectations but delivered on quality!
With the addition of Warwick Davies to the show, I felt that it might turn Idiot Abroad into a more contrived show than its more organic roots. Apart from a couple of contrived moments the show managed to evolve into something new and fresh without breaking too far away from how it started in the first two series.Karl seems more comfortable in front of camera. He knows what he wants to do, or not to. He does seem more aware of his whit than usual. Davies seems a pretty genuine character as well. There's some genuinely funny moments too that will have you laughing out loud. Also, on blue-ray this show looks amazing. The idiot abroad series is by far the best travel show out there right now. Nothing is hidden or covered to making something look good or bad. It is what it is. Thoroughly recommend it!!!
