Economical and high quality. £1 per A4 sheet ink cost at £35 per cartridge.
Every time I look into people's reviews and opinions on using cheaper third party ink, the bottom line tends to be the same: it ends up being more expensive in terms of wasted paper, ink clogs, leaks, repairs and other technical problems that follow. I've never made the potentially costly mistake of buying third party inks myself, but I stick to the original Epson cartridges that still are very cost effective for the Epson 3880 and the bigger printers. With smaller ink cartridges, ink is a major cost. When it gets to this size and bigger, paper becomes the main cost that needs to be offset. Did I mention good print quality? It does that too.I have been using my Epson printer professionally when I ran a gallery, and before and after as an artist and photographer, and it has never failed to deliver excellent, consistent and lovely results on a variety of papers. Results particularly on Epson's own papers are stunning and have required no extra calibration from the standard profiles the printer came with. I have also had absolutely excellent results on any Hahnemuehle papers I have put through it, and decent and certainly very cost-effective results on Permajet papers. When I purchased my 3880, I considered other options too. A 4900-series, though it costs twice as much, will be cheaper to use in the long run as the ink cartridges are bigger and therefore have a lower cost per litre - especially with the 200ml cartridges. Anything smaller than the 3880 uses smaller ink cartridges and is therefore a lot more expensive to actually use for printing, even if your printing volume is relatively low. In terms of ink cost, I found the 3880 to be at a nice crossroads of initial cost versus lifetime costs.I used to worry about ink expiry dates, but as my printer has not seen as much use after I closed my gallery as before, I still have ink cartridges of the lesser used colours in the printer that expired a few years ago now, but they are all still perfectly fine. I used to order the cheaper packs of all the cartridges when my printing volume was higher, but now I just order them separately when I get a low ink warning - or even a bit after, depending on whether I am in the middle of a print job or not.It varies depending on what you print, of course, but at £35 per cartridge, my calculations indicate a price of 1p per square inch with the 3880's ink. That's almost exactly £1 per full-bleed A4 sheet. Based on numbers I found online that in my experience seem relatively accurate, changing blacks costs a bit over £1 as well, though with a bit of planning, one can avoid doing that too often.

Stupid not to go with original inks.
This is the first cartridge needed for my Epson 3880 after six months of normal use (about 370 pages).Price was reasonable, but I have since found these cheaper elsewhere.Plus I paid extra for 1st class postage but the package didn't arrive on time.

I couldn’t believe that I received this ink cartridge the day after I ordered it. I used the delivered ink in my printer to fulfill an order for photography prints that had a very short deadline.
