Veil Rising (The Star Guild Saga Book 1)

Start of an excellent series
"Veil Rising" is an exciting entrance into a fascinating unique universe where humans are supplying slave labor to an technologically more advanced species. It has a well thought out plot with believable characters. This book makes you want to read the rest of the series.

Great Space Opera
Great Space Opera. The plot is good. Attack by unknown enemy. Attempt to annihilate the human race. Space battles. Intrigue, mysteries, backstabbing, double-crosses. All great. Mr. Ellis knows how to tell a story that will keep his audience glued to the page, or screen, monitor, whatever. There are a couple of irritating faults in the writing, though. Constantly writing that the doors open vertically is not necessary, once we know that a door on the star ship opens vertically we can take that as a given. And which way is vertically? Do they open up, or down, with a horizontal opening? Or sideways, with a vertical opening? I thought I had it until a flat rock balanced vertically on two other rocks was described as providing a roof. Really? A vertical roof? How's that work? Ending sentences with at, for, etc. is simply bad grammar. Have someone proofread the work that is not grammatically challenged, please.I have seen grammar in books that is much worse, so this wasn't too bad. I have also seen repetition that is much worse, so I can accept that, too. But a vertical roof? Okay, I can let that one slide, too. But all together? The cost is one star.Fix those minor faults and this will be a five star book. One other good thing, no DRM.I recommend this book.

A truly fabulous series opener! By Faith Barry
Since I've watched a lot of Ancient Aliens on TV, this book fit right in with what they espouse on their shows. If you like shows about the Annunaki, portals to other worlds, and mysterious planet Nibiru, this will be something you will absolutely enjoy reading. It has so far a good story line and a lot of action. I like the characters and even started crying when Eden was ready to give up her life to save thousands of people. I already bought the next two books in the trilogy.

Incomplete
Stories like this one are intriguing but seem to be a marketing ploy to get you to buy the next book. I don't like that and do not participate. The story is not complete and is left hanging like the old Saturday serials back in the 1950's. If knowing this you want go read, go ahead but don't expect a complete story,,,

Excellent and really entertaining series!
Congratulations to Brandon Ellis for this amazing series. It’s difficult to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.

Episodes 1-9
I'm about half way through reading Star Guild Episodes 1-9 of the Star Guild Saga, and am not sure if I'll buy any sequels yet. I do like how the story switches back and forth between the point of view of 5 or 6 different characters who are on different sides and locations of the action, and the author does a good job with that. It doesn't make for confusion in the story line like it does in some books. In fact, that's been kind of fun: you know how you're buzzing along and getting absorbed in a story, when all of a sudden you have to stop for a second and readjust your brain to this totally different character, and to remember where he or she was at. It makes for lots of little cliffhangers, where you're in the middle of some action, and all of a sudden, you're - bang - back to something more mundane. There have definitely been spots where I didn't want to put the book down when I had to go attend to something in my other (real) life, and thought that I had a real winner in my hands; but there have also been a few spots where I thought that it all kind of stalled out. I'll come back when I get to the end.

AWESOME RIDE!
One of the best things about reading anything by Brandon Ellis is the wild and spectacular ride I know I will be on when jumping into a new series of his. Veil Rising is a thrill to read and glad that I can jump right into book two. Only problem is, I wonder if I'll be done before he has a book three out? Great read, a bit mind bendy and twisted, but I love that kind of thing.

Interesting
I like the authors writing style. Clear and easy to read. Story is very creative and moves along nicely. Has a lot of eastern mysticism. I’ve always been interested in the Knights Templar. But, they were Crusaders until the were excommunicated. If I remember right they were followed by the Freemasons. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what the author does with the mysticism. Im trying to figure out if he is combining Catholic with eastern thought.I’m not really a fan of some of the “chi” and the mysticism; but, it is science fiction and fantasy I have to remind myself. I think that the, dwarves seem very Toikenish. Also a Gandolph type character. Sometimes he seems to borrow too much from other books. I know our author can be a little more creative but I think this was one of his earlier books. We’ll see where he takes us in book two.

Persevere, it IS worth it
At first I was not sure about the book. Picked it up, read a couple of chapters, sighed, put it down. I just could not get involved. I left it for a week or so until the footy was back on the tv and I gave it another go. So glad I persevered. Ari's tale twists and turns and all the ingredients come together. Looking forward to the next instalment.

A long way from home
The beginning chapters reflect the confusion of an unknown enemy, and set the scene for what is to come. This is a story with intrigue, political manoeuvring, cover ups, suspenseful moments, and forgotten history. The differing factions are confusing as they are revealed, however we see more clearly as things unfold. By the end of this first novel, a whole new era awaits our characters.

Veil rising
I admit I stumbled a bit figuring who was good, who was bad and what the frak was going on.
