To Hold Responsible: A Lake District Thriller (DI Sam Cobbs Book 10)

Wow... you'd think after the sheer number of books this author writes she would have run out of ideas by now. Happily, this is so much not the case. I guess with the world as it is at the moment there is plenty of things going on that can be translated into a rather good book. As is the case in this one! Although I can't say what it is - spoilers - but I will say that it is a rather hot topic at the moment, even more so with the news that came yesterday. But... yeah... say no more.Suffice to say that she has taken that topic and produced another most cracking read. Albeit very emotional. We start with the death of a wife and her children, the father left beaten up. Sam and her team are drafted in to investigate and have only just got started when there is another father left devastated with the death of the rest of his family. A link is made but just as they start to make ground into finding the culprit, another person goes missing and it ups the ante and makes it a life or death race against time...Oh my days. This book. And the reports on the news yesterday. Harrowing. I wish I could explain but it would spoil things. I forgot to say at the beginning that even though the story is self-contained, the series is another cracker and you will enjoy it all the more if you start from book one and read in order.As well as a cracking, emotional, thrilling read, this book contains everything else I love about this author. Pacing is consistent and matches the narrative all the way through. The story hit the ground running, and held me captive for the duration as it delivered shock after shock. In fact, the only time I did put it down was when I felt I needed a time out due to the subject matter. I never felt unsafe, I hasten to add. Just a little emotional. And the characters are immense. So easy to connect with. And the subject definitely gives food for thought...All in all, another worthy addition to an already cracking back catalogue... roll on next time.

It just goes to show you it doesn’t pay to be greedy & have everything you want at the expense of others.DI Sam Cobbs & her team are trying to track down a killer who has robbed a man of his family. This man is now lying in hospital with horrific injuries, & not knowing he now has nothing to live for. They collect as much evidence as they can but before they can sift through everything, another mass killing happens & the same scenario occurs. With hardly anything to go by they are baffled as to the why’s & the wherefore. Slowly the leads start to trickle in and they are able to string the clues together.This is an exceptionally great read in the light of what is happening today in the UK.

This is book 10 in the DI Sam Cobbs series and this series just keeps getting better and better.Families are being massacred but why? Sam and her team are really up against it as there appears to be no connection between the killings or motive and to top it all a relative of one of the families is kidnapped. After painstaking detective work the pieces start coming together but will it be in time. This author does not shy away from big issues and this one is handled really well. Didn’t see that ending coming!Another epic storyline in this fantastic series. Highly recommend.

When john wades family are brutally murdered in their own home, and john is in hospital fighting for his life, sam and the team get the case. Why has this happened? Who would do such a thing?. When a second family is murdered in the same way sam needs to get the cases solved.This is an emotional read, a sensitive plot around child murders, but handled very well by the author as always. I highley recommend the DI sam cobb series.

Why would anyone kill a man’s wife and children, but leave him alive, albeit fighting for his life?This is the quandary facing Sam, Bob and the team in this latest thrilling series.When the same thing happens again, the team are desperate to find out who has carried out this appalling act and why.This was an extremely difficult story to read, books that contain child murders often are. The author handles this sensitively and again, manages to write about subjects that are in the news regularly.I always enjoy the banter between Sam and Bob, but there wasn’t so much in this tale, for obvious reasons.This is one of my favourite series, the stories are often emotional and well structured.

Wow this series is just going by so fast and seriously it just gets more gripping as it goes.At first we think it’s a burglary then as the book continues you see there’s more to it and it’s awful what happens. The underlying tale is just awful too.The story though is a mind grabbing trip and definitely kept me hooked.Had to finish it the next day once I started.So good!!
