Have faith. It works!
Just have faith and solid connections to your PIC. I mean rock solid wires with no defect in connection (make sure they have damn low resistance). Connect the PGD, PGC, VDD ,VSS(gnd), Vpp/MCLR pins from Pic kit to your pic, add a 5-10K ohm resistor between VDD and Vpp, and make sure you supply the volt from custom PSU or from the Pic kit (look for software options).Don't worry about crystal Osc. - (unless you start debugging). It works without any hassles. I would've felt more comfy if the seller had a return policy of some kind. The pic kit has no boost circuit to wok with low volt USB.
