The Norton Shakespeare

This is an excellent product. I did look at it in a bookshop before I bought it online - it would have been very heavy to carry around. To get so much content into one book, it is bound to have thin pages and be easier to read on a table. The hardback might be a better choice than the paperback, but it would not avoid all the problems.However, the whole content is also available online by a code contained in the book. You can then click on words for online explanations and use the content in many ways I don't even know yet.Caveat: the digital version is usually used by students for one year. I found it confusing to register, as they expected my 'school or college address'. I had to contact the publisher, who only after the second email from me understood the problem and gave me long-term digital access.

The plays are clear and well-presented. The additional content is high quality scholarly work from leading experts. This is a book designed for students studying a large range of Shakespeare's work rather than individual plays where individual texts might be more user friendly. The pages are necessarily very thin and the book as a whole is quite unwieldy, but that is to be expected. My only real complaint is that the the cover is strikingly ugly.

While I am not entirely convinced by the editorial policy, which results in very cautiously conservative texts, this edition beats its rivals in its valuable introductions to each play, and its glosses. Particularly useful is the connection to the online edition, which includes a whole lot more material in a pleasantly readable form.

Though I was very happy with the service of delivery and the digital edition feature, I am very disappointed with the text itself. I was not expecting such fine pages. They feel like they would easily tear and I don't think the book would last me very long. For the price paid, I was expecting better quality. I am expected to use this text in an exam and now I fear that I will spend most of my time fiddling with the pages. The flimsy pages make it very hard to navigate my way through the text. Really big disappointment!Update: I have only started using this text and have noticed that a random page in the middle has been torn. This is really unfair because Amazon does not seem to take any action with this! Obviously,​ it is a manufacturers fault.

I had this book with a hardcover previously, which sister owns now. If someone is going to have a first purchase then I recommend to have a hardcover copy of this. The content and information are quite comprehensive. A must-have for the bard's readers at higher level!

Ended up with 2 x ebook vouchers and no phyical book. In the end, had to cancel the order, receive a refund via Amazon customer service and reorder in order to receive the book. An annoying glitch.Amazon customer service helpful and well intentioned but the order "broke" twice. The book itself - well worth it, as ever.

Bought it used, and it arrived in good condition. Has useful editions of Shakespeare's works

El precio es excelente para la calidad (y cantidad) de los contenidos. Me parece imprescindible para la comprensión del inglés de Shakespeare por personas con conocimientos del idioma medios. Magníficamente anotado.

This book comes with a code to use Norton online which is great because I don't have to carry this huge book everywhere if I don't want to. And online I'm able to listen to some of the acts and see some other cool stuff like the original script. The annotations online are also easier to read because you scroll over the phrases and see them side by side.

I ordered this paperback version for class because the hardback edition my teacher asked for was sold out and this is the only book Amazon had listed as it's "paperback edition." Do not make the same mistake I did and buy only this book, the second volume that completes the set is ISBN- 978-0393938586. If possible, I suggest buying the giant hardback as it is nicer looking, and cheaper to buy it on its own than buying the two volumes separately.
