This 8Gb digital voice recorder or Dictaphone is small and lightweight.Digital Voice Recorder:==================The buttons are easy to read and press. The case has a real plastic feel to it. The slide switch on/off and the hold button are appropriate since you don’t want to inadvertently turn these on/off. The device has a clear backlit LCD screen so you can see what you are selecting in the dark. However, the buttons don’t light up.The speaker is good and you can easily hear playback from this (see video).The Mic in, headphone and USB ports are located on the left side of the device with menu, mode, volume and hold on the left.The microphone is sensitive and picks up your voice easily. It appears sensitive so that if you are moving the device whilst using it you may get interference. I test the ability to pick up my voice by talking at the same level and walking away. At approximately 2.5m my voice could just be heard. In lectures where people speak louder then it should work alright.Voice recorder Modes:=================A/B recording – this enables you to record in folder A or B. There is VAS (Voice activated recording), high quality/HQ (WSV 1536Kbps) or Standard/SD (MP3 193Kbps), loop record.You can mark a recording so that it plays between point A & B. This is a handy function if you are trying to learn something or remembering facts from a recording since it means you don’t have to constantly rewind to the desired point.MP3 Player:==========If desired you can upload MP3s on to the device but it mustn’t be in the A/B folder since this is for voice recordings. Preloaded on the device are two tracks (Carpenter - Medley and Scarborough Fair).Accessories:=========There is a wired clip on microphone that would enable you to record with the voice recorder in your pocket. There is a basic set of earphones but I’d recommend getting a better set if you are listening to the recorder as an MP3 player or recording.I like that you can connect this to your phone line which I will find useful when calling customer services so I can a recording of what is said.There is an audio jack cable to connect to external speakers as well. The USB cable enables you to charge (takes between 2-3 hours) as well as transfer recordings. However, this is only on the PC and won’t work if you have a Mac.Instructions:==========These are simple and easy enough to follow. The recording device is good, easy to use and get it back onto a computer.The sound is clear and loud, easy to listen to so great for creating transcripts.Once you get used to the buttons its easy to use.Menu button does nothing on mine but its not necessary.Buttons are werid to use, pressing and holding the record gives no indication its working, letting go a light comes on and it says its recording.In the recording this is VERY loud so if you mess up you get seconds of "CLICK CLICK...CLICK...CLICK"It doesn't handle background noise very well.

If you after a small, compact and high quality audio voice recorder you won’t wrong with this one. The voice recorder measures 10cm in height, 3.5cm width and around 1cm in thickness, it ways next to nothing so can easily place in your pocket. Recording is instant and simple, just turn on and press the record button and it will start capturing audio. To end the recording you just press the record button again. You can also playback instantly by pressing the play button, and forward / rewind by long pressing the dedicated buttons. The voice recorder has multi direction microphones at the top and there is a connector to add an additional wired mic. The 2 built in Mic’s however are sufficient and pick up voice and sound really well, in large rooms or small. If you are buying this for university of college then this will be great as it can pick up sound from a distance. Im using mine to record voice audio for video’s I shoot and edit, its great that you can plug into the PC via the supplied USB cable and see all the recorded audio files by date and time.The device also has a auto record feature, you have to switch the mode on and then the device will record sound when it senses any. With 8GB of storage you will have plenty of storage to stores many hours of Audio. This device can also be used as a MP3 player, you can connect to a PC and transfer Music file over to the device of the drive. In the box you get a pair of headphones which surprisingly were decent quality and a Mini USB Cable to charge and connect to a PC
