Go for it if your tv doesn't support HDMI Arc and optical out
This is the best device for extracting Dolby digital 5.1 audio output from hdmi Input Devices to connect to your 5.1 Home theatre through optical out if your tv is old which doesn't support HDMI Arc and optical outAnd this device work perfectly with firestick for getting Dolby digital audioI have a firestick and 5.1 Sony Home theatre HT S20r and my tv is Panasonic old 32 inch tv which doesn't support HDMI Arc and optical out in it so i was not able to get 5.1 surround sound from firestick So after a lot of research i have ordered this device from amazon and after connecting my firestick to this device it transmitts Dolby digital audio signal to optical port to my home theatre and video signals are being passed through hdmi output to my tv by this way you can enjoy 5.1 surround sound from HDMI input sourceImportant InformationThis device supports only Dolby digital 5.1 and basic Dts formats and supported and also Dolby digital plus is also not supported through optical it can be passed through only hdmi arc functionUpdate NovemberThe device was perfectly working till november 2023 but when i Switched on this device when after there was lightning and thunderstorm in my house this device got stopped working with a sound in switch board and the device is not turning on so try to connect with proper adapter i have trying to claim warranty but they are not giving proper response.

Defective product
Worked 3-4 months only (less than 2 hours daily). One year warranty is there, but no proper assistance from Amazon. Good bye Amazon.

Works as advertised. Very happy with the product.
Tried it with Fire TV Stick, as well as Jio STB. Works great with both. Getting 5.1 Dolby Digital output. (You won't get Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby Atmos. It's a limitation of Optical Cable, not the splitter.). Sound output is good.Very simple to setup.1. Plug the power cable into any USB Type-A adapter (you can use your phone charger).2. Connect the HDMI output from your TV Stick/Box to the splitter input.3. Connect the Optical Cable or 3.5mm Aux from the splitter to your speaker. (Note: You'll get only 2.1 output from Aux. Use Optical cable for 5.1)4. Connect the HDMI output from the splitter to your TV.That's it.Don't forget to click the button on the splitter to turn on 5.1. You'll see a red light when you click the button. Which means it's 5.1.

Good for Bose Lifestyle. But read.
I have a Bose Lifestyle 18 series III audio system, a normal TV and a latest Firestick. I wanted to use these all three together. The audio system doesn’t have an HDMI so you cannot use it with the directly TV but there is an optical audio port luckily. On the other side my TV doesn’t have an optical port. So got this HDMI extractor device to split the HDMI signal into audio and video separately. It’s nicely build metal. Connector aren’t loose. This all Worked good but here is something from experience :1. The device doesn’t remember the last audio state 2.1 or 5.1. It means you’d need to press the button each time you use the device. Also the device uses a button for switching to multichannel audio which I didn’t like. I expect this to use a slider as it would remember the state and it would be more user intuitive too. Hope this is fixed in the next iteration.2. The device just worked for a few months and then it stopped. It just shows a black screen now. Hope it comes with a two years warranty instead of just one.Now I’m using Apple TV 3 which has an optical port built in. I would be looking for some other brand for audio extractor this time but this isn’t a bad one either.

Not suitable for only audio
I wanted only audio extractor. Buyed this to see how it works. Supports amazon 4k fire tv stick as input and will only give output when audio and video both connected to output slots. Good quality of sound and video. At present it is converting 4k into 1080p full hd.

Works great on Apple TV 4K
I have been looking for an audio extractor for the Apple TV 4K, for reason that my (old but good) AVR only has HDMI pass through. It does not decode audio. And unlike the previous Apple TV, the latest does not have optical/audio out. There are so many of these audio extractors available, and none have consistently good reviews. I purchased a different one on Amazon which I returned because the video picture was distorted and all snow.In a second attempt I purchased this Amazon Basics extractor. Works great! Picture is no different than without the extractor. And now I have optical out for my AVR. That sound is great as well.Pretty much plug and play device. The only adjustment I made was to the Apple TV audio setting. It did not recognize that Dolby 5.1 was switched on the extractor. However it did allow me to select it. Doing so, surround sound kicked in and the Dolby indicator lit up on my AVR. Sounds great! Even sounds better than the old Apple TV with optical out.

Apple TV 4k connection to 1080HD monitor and separate audio out works perfectly
Bought this hoping to extract audio from Apple TV 4k HDMI while continuing to have the Apple 4k video work on an Acer 1080 HD monitor. Previously tried a different but similar solution which did not provide 1080HD compatible video out. This Amazon Basics unit does the trick and my dear wife is now able to use her Christmas present as intended. As to the device itself, seems very solid. One slight surprise was that the analog audio out gives left and right front channels in 5.1 mode, meaning no voice; but setting the switch to stereo brings things back to normal. The instruction manual says the stereo out doesn't work in 5.1 mode but based on my experience that's wrong. In any event, this is no big deal.I have not checked to see if the box can power itself over HDMI.We aren't connecting to a 5.1 audio environment, but if the day comes where we want to do so, it's nice to have both TOSLINK and Coax S/PDIF outputs. And speaking of the instruction manual, well done Amazon! Very nice to get one with a product like this. The manual also includes disposal instructions for the various markets served, which is a good thing. One thing that may be a limitation for other users of this box - according to the manual, the supported 4k video resolution is 8bit / 30Hz. In my case this is not an issue since we want the Apple TV box to run in 1080p mode (12bit / 60Hz).In summary, this is a great little unit for people who need to separate the audio from their AppleTV 4k HDMI signal because the monitor they are using doesn't have an audio output.
